In these pictures the markers are painted on. The hour hands look flat, but the lume is applied in a a mound onto a flat surface so they look somewhat 3d when you see the watch in person. I thought I wouldn't like them but I do. Definitely not the Rolex applied markers, but they give a real tool watch look.

The hands are made of a white (silver) metal material. It looks every bit as shiny as any pair of Rolex hands I've ever seen.
The hands are black on the white face model obviously for contrast reasons with the dial much the same way as the white dial ExplorerII emulated that look .
The dial is made like the way Rolex used to make their tool watch dials, that is of course before Rolex went bling bling with their white gold hour marker cabochons. Take a look at all the classics 1680, 1665, 1675 etc.
On all the current Rolex I would prefer to see the white gold hour markers dropped and that substituted with a larger (equal size to the white hold surrounds) lume provided.

If you look at the date window, you can see a white locating frame. This makes it very easy to see the date. Then notice how the date is printed in white on a black background, again a feature not seen on Rolex. The Omega GMT date is much more readily readable in comparison to a Rolex without the cyclops so I guess that's why Rolex has a cyclops and Omega doesn't.

Thanks Ed, I can well understand due to the quality and engineering of the Omega GMT that you might have mistaken it for that of quartz performance. It is always good to get kind words from another when one gets a new timepiece

I got the Seamaster GMT from a grey market dealer in Japan. The dealer wouldn't deal with me so I had to go through a local Japanese friend who has a neice living in Japan.
Took me 4 weeks to get it but it was worth the wait, as you might guess I'm shocked at how much this smiles at me

Mine has gained six seconds in seven days. It was keeping time to 2 seconds a day, but after about six weeks it settled down more. But the real test will be how the GMT performs over 4, 5, 6 years. For mine Steve, best timekeeping is when I wear it 24 hours a day, or when I place it crown up at night. My Submariner keeps time to 3 seconds a day - still very respectable.

I didn't have to Gary, I just right clicked and save them on my computer and uploaded it to TRF. I'm not sure why the pictures are not showing up for some of the members, but I saw it right from the start. It could be browser related incompatibility issues, FWIW, i'm using IE7.

Resale is an interesting topic. I think you can get one new for around US$1800. I bought mine used for US$1050. I have seen them used on e-bay go for around $1,300.
Long term I have confidence, that with the cessation of production occurring, the price/value of this model will go up.
It is a really well rounded piece from Omega that I feel will stand the test of time exceedingly well.

I must agree on the GMT... I originally purchased a SMP Ti but then returned it and found a white SMP GMT which I've found to be a nice alternative to my SS Sub date. The GMT is not THE GMT... but it's close!

Both the 300m and planet ocean models of the seamaster smiles at me just as much as the submariner. They look soo much better in reality then any photo can tell! The feel and finish of Omega's are second to none!!!

I'm an Omega guy (blue dial Aqua Terra and Speedmaster Professional), and looking to add a GMT. I never considered Rolex before (a bit too expensive, I thought), and ignorant of the brand details, but after stumbling upon the new SS GMT-II I got interested. I'm big on history (hence the Speedy Pro) and as a traveler I appreciate the story of the GMT and PanAm pilots. That's worth a lot, but $3K worth over the Omega...I'm not sure...

So, it's the Seamaster GMT vs. the GMT-Master II. There is a chance I may add a Rolex to my Omegas...looking to you all to help guide me along...

Until then, it is truly nice to see an adult discussion of Omega and Rolex without resorting to bloodshed. Nice compliments on Omega from Rolex fans. Well done, guys. Think I'll hang around...
