Gone Deep!
Well after seeking some sage advice from the members of these forums I finally traded my 3 year old SubC Date against a year old mint condition Deep Sea Dweller.
I am delighted with this new addition and just love the presence it has on my wrist, even without the missing the links. SO I'm looking forward to confidently swimming at the deep end of our pool in Florida in a few weeks My only small gripe is that the previous owner had small wrists (presumably the reason for selling so soon) and has not included the bracelet links that have been removed. However a quick call resolved that and I'll so have it sitting perfectly on my wrist. I post some more on the wrist shots once that's done. Time to say goodbye to the SubC Date: Unboxing time: Looks smaller than I thought well in comparison to my AD SubC Date clock in the background that is. [IMG][/IMG] On the wrist and in the car shots coming soon. |

Good question and one that I posted a few weeks ago. I always fancied a Sea Dweller and was disappointed when they were discontinued. I bought the Sub C Date new rather than an older Sea Dweller as once you try on the new gridlock bracelet you don't want to go back to the old clasp. Also I'm quite a big guy and my wrist is 7.5 inches. When the SD4000 came out just a few months after I bought the the SubC Date I considered flipping it for one of them. I had first pick at my local AD but while I loved the look of it in photographs it looked smaller on my wrist than the SubC - I was so disappointed.
The DSSD was out of my price range new back then but I really liked the look of it (in my opinion it looks far better in real life than it does in photos) and recently I was getting a bit restless and wearing my Explorer 2 polar more than the SubC. With all the pre Basel World publicity I thought that the new Sea Dweller was potentially going to be my 'Grail' watch, but I agree with a lot of people who say that the cyclops just spoils what maybe the perfect watch. While in my AD he offered me nearly the same money I paid for my SubC as a trade in against an SD43 (I'd still be on the waiting list) but I got an even better offer from another company against the mint DSSD. Some people go on about it's imperfect proportions and looks. But for me that's part of the appeal. And after all it is still the 'ultimate' Rolex. I therefore decided to do the deal and I am glad that I did. |
