If the immediate conversation is about sports, I'm out. I can't tell you how many times complete strangers come up to me and want to talk about sports. I'm just one of those people that don't have the infatuation (or understanding) about sports. I like to play some games (basketball, golf, running), but to watch them non-stop and talk about them non-stop, I cannot. It seems I'm in a small minority in the USA.

As a Sociologist, people genuinely interest me. I'll talk to anyone about anything.
I find that I can get a conversation going with almost anyone. This can be a problem however as sometimes people decide that "you understand them" and they want to be your 'best friend'.
I try to balance this by being very clear about my beliefs and principles which provides a 'realistic moderator' to any interaction.

I agree. Some of us hesitate a bit while opening up with strangers. Assessing the situation would help to some extent. Time to change a bit.

I also find it very easy to meet and talk to people. Having spent my entire career in sales, it's easy to see or hear cues for talking points. Much of it is superficial but it also allows me to figure out whether I want to build on that or not. Most of the time, I'm not interested in anything more.

I like having a small group of friends but now that i have a 2 year old, I feel obligated to hang out with other parents of similar aged kids.

So you lure them in with small talk, then tell them to piss off once the conversation gets serious. You're too cruel Rock.

I'm usually outgoing will talk to almost anyone but the older I get my tolerance level for idiots is really low and when I get annoyed my level of sarcasm moves up a notch on the other side of the coin I can also appreciate and laugh over sarcastic comments where many would probably be offended then again in current times everyone seems to be offended over just about everything

I am generally friendly and respectful. I can talk to anyone for the most part and not have an issue. I am also someone who filters conversations very well and can make the appropriate adjustments based on the conversation and content.

I am generally reserved. My wife insists I'm very quite until I know people well. I think I am becoming more open with old age.

I'm naturally a friendly person and often misjudged as flirting. (Which I don't have a clue about Im the painfully shy type) I tend to talk to most people I meet as though I've known them for years and usually end up having banter/giggling about something random with them, especially elderly. I turn into jelly when presenting in front of people I know

I think it's important to say kind words to whoever you come across or even just saying Hi or a smile. And I like to learn about what different people are passionate about and their life experiences.

It's nice to be nice. Have positive assumptions of people.

I just want to relax on a holiday

Quality time !

No need to hear or see other people's problems after a few beers or margaritas

They can do that all the other days 😂

But that's just me I guess 😉

We're giving you the brother in law rate. It would be unconscionable to bill a fellow WIS full price.

If you needed me to give a speech to 500 people in one hour about anything I would do it.

No problem with engaging others........if they like you, they'll listen to you, if they listen to you they'll believe you, if they believe you they'll buy from you.

One day while I was still working, a couple of guys on BMW motorcycles came into the coffee shop where I was taking a break. We struck up a conversation as to where they were headed to next. They were brothers taking a tour of the western US from their homes in England. One was in the Royal Navy the other in the Royal Marines.

Yosemite Valley was the next destination, and they gave me their routing plans. Their route had them doubling back over roads they’d already traveled. I asked if they wanted a guide and if they did, to meet me in the same place the next morning. I was off for the next four days so I had plenty of time.

We met in the AM and I took them south along the eastern front of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and then over Tioga Pass at 9945 feet above sea level and down into the valley. The nice ranger at the Yosemite NP entrance even let me get a third bike in on my National Park Pass. I shared a meal with them and headed out of the park to the west and started home.

Couple of months later, a package arrived for me at the PD and I was gifted nice RN and RM ballcaps along with a letter of thanks and commendation addressed to the chief of police.

Most of the time, I think it’s the circumstances that allow/don’t allow for any “outgoingness.” If these guys weren’t on BMW motorcycles, (like I ride), I wouldn’t have looked at them twice.
