I'm a Libertarian. I am no fan of Republicans or Democrats, but I hate above all else being played for a fool.

I have owned companies and made payroll and dealt with our governments regulatory environment. I am no noob when it comes to the economics that drive our country and the way we get through this is to leave it well enough alone and let the market sort itself out. Period. The government caused this problem. I don't think giving them $700,000,000,000.00 to fix it is the most prudent thing we can do.

I for one refuse to watch my country (which as a veteran I have fought for) go down the road to socialism. This is exactly the opportunity those in our government who love socialism, communism and any other anti-American "ism" have been waiting for. Go ahead and play into their hand with hysterics, that is just what they want.

Having these idiots (Barney Frank, et al) tell me that they have no culpability in this is an insult to my intelligence. They seem to forget that they are ON RECORD with their comments and we know very well what they knew and when they knew it. This isn't subjective.

They had ample opportunities to fix this problem before it was a problem, and chose to block every effort to do so.

Your comment "let's divide ourselves into little groups, liberal and conservative, and each blame the other for the problems we have" holds no merit. This is about right and wrong and accountability. This is what is important.

Sir, your comment that we can "let the market sort itself out" belies your belief that you are "no noob when it comes to the economics that drive our country" - I can assure you that the problems the market and the economy are facing are systemic. They are deep and must be dealt with, not ignored. The problems are far, far more complex ("nuanced") than your simplistic solution would imply.

I cannot help but notice that both you and Nigel mention only the Democrats in the assignation of blame here; doing so makes you look a bit foolish. Republicans (who, for instance, crafted and passed the Glass-Steigal Act before Clinton signed it [which he did because the Republican Congress was going to override his veto anyhow]) are equally to blame (and, some would say, more).

I've also no idea what politicians you think are closet socialists, communists or anti-Americans. (Spare me the list of Democrats.) If we engage in reasoned debate rather than gross generalities, we'll find that there are addle-headed fools on both sides of this, and real patriots in every party trying to fix a major problem.

One thing is for certain - you and I won't be able to agree on what to do here. You're convinced you're right, and I'm convinced that both you and I need a lot more information. But maybe we can agree that we both want what's best for America, and that everyone who loves this country is, at heart, a patriot. And then maybe we can agree that we're all against the unfair enrichment of a few at the expense of the many. And then, maybe, we can all fix this mess, or support the good-hearted patriots that are trying to.
