Question about TT submariner serti dial

Hi all,
I am new to the world of Rolex as I just purchased a pre owned 2004 Submariner with the slate serti dial. I purchased it from a reputable Jeweler. My question is, this watch has a date with no magnifier on the crystal. The watch is in pristine condition. Did Rolex ever sell the sub without the date magnifier or would this be a replacement crystal?

They could have take it off the crystal. They are just glued on.

Rolex never sold this watch without the cyclops/magnifier. It may have been removed but I'm surprised a reputable jeweler wouldn't mention this. Please post some pics if you can.

Here are the pictures. BTW, the watch came with the Rolex two year warranty ceretificate with the name and address of the original purchaser, date, serial and model numbers and all original packaging. I attempted to turn the bezel and it did not turn easily, I did not want to force it. The salesman said, maybe it does not on this model. I did go to another store later as my inlaw wanted to see if he could find the same model pre owned. They looked at it and the bezel did turn, just with some resistance. They are authorized dealers and did not think this was a fake.

Great looking watch.
You can send it to Rolex and ask for service estimate. If they give you one, it's a real one with the cyclop removed. Otherwise they will not service a non genuine article.
But, they may also deny it since it has been altered, I don't know for sure.

I am going to Mayor Jewelers tomorrow. My wife and inlaws bought their Rolexes there. I will have them check this puppy out and see what they say. I do like the crystal without the cyclops. It reminds me of the Sea Dweller. I am not a big fan of the big cyclops on any watch but know it is almost a trademark of Rolex!

I found this thread about removing the cyclops or replacing the crystal. I don't know which route was taken on my watch, only that I happen to like it the way it is. Thanks for your repsonses!

The rest of the watch look great. Do you like your bracelet that tight?
I also like the ones without cyclop. Just a nice variation to have.

The date window color looks off to me, maybe its just the pics. Interesting that a jewler would sell it without the cyclops.

Beautiful piece!
There are a few mentors on TRF who will know the answer for sure.
Findind a Store with someone really in the know seems to be a chore in our area of the State. Atleast it was for me on getting details on the vintage Sub I had.
Just give it a little time for one of them to respond.

SE Florida. Store told me they serviced it but I'll bet that is BS. Anyway, they gave me atwo year warranty. I was at a Mayors Jewlery store today and the salesman really liked the watch, said it was his favorite Rolex. Made me feel good. I am very happy that I bought it and will be even happier when it is paid off!

BTW, it is keeping excellent time.

What is "serti dial" ?

It looks like a steel dial with gems.
Why is it called "serti"?

There - I finally asked that question that has bothered me but I keep forgetting to ask it!

The watch is available with eithe a champagne dial or the slate dial. As for what SERTI means, good question.

Serti is French for set stones. Referring to the gems.

Nice watch, I like the sans-cyclops look on that dial. Date wheel color appears correct for a 16613. I agree that the bezel needs to be serviced.

The store told me the watch was serviced. But, I can tell you the Bezel does not turn easily. Since I have a two year warranty, I am going to go back to the store. They claim their watchmaker is Rolex certified but they are not a Rolex Distributor. I bought it here. www.bevjewelers.com in person, not on the web. What do they do on a bezel service?

A favorite of mine!! Very smart choice! My current main wear is my Deepsea... But, the Serti sub is my usual wear. I never see another being worn. Sometimes I think it is too much for a "poor, but honest" businessman. And then again, "WHat the hell". Most of my customers are retired millionairs in gated communities... Enjoy!

I have not seen one worn either. I am not sure how popular the Serti two tone is. I think them more rare also. They may be to dressy for some and possibly, not enough for others. The rich retired millionaires may have the solid gold version/diamonds! I am very please just owning such a nice watch. Now, my old Breitling Top Time and new Super Ocean XP plus have company... a new cousin!

(Newbie) I'm not that familure with the Submariner (never owned or even held one).

The minute hand looks a little short; is it typical for the minute hand NOT to come all the way out to the outer border of the dial on a Submariner? I was under the impression that the minute hand on any Rolex, will come within a couple of millimeters of the outer dial edge.
