There's a lot of force on the reset/flyback, so if the watch was hit a little hard, perhaps the hand is dragging the inside of the crystal. Still doesn't seem like it could bend it though as the bend appears a few millimeters from the center shaft. However those hands are thin and light, so if it's dragging on the glass it's possible.
Either way, Rolex will replace the hand and do a full service most likely. Best not to run the chrono until it goes in, but in my opinion, nothing can get further damaged by using it as a timekeeper. |

Having done extensive internet research, I have found what I believe to be the most plausible mechanism for the observed deviation.

It's just Refraction from the way the light is hitting the crystal for sure.
Yes hacking is pulling the crown as if you were going to reset the time however that would not be recommended. Just hack it to stop the gears from turning and place it in a bag or container of sorts until you have the oppportunity to send it in for repair.

Okay, so this is strange... woke up this morning to find that at some point overnight while the watch was sitting on my table, the timer started ticking... stopped the chronograph and it reset flawlessly back to zero (with the needle still bent of course). Very bizarre, but I definitely will not be touching the timer again until servicing.

Just saw this bent GMT hand in the FS section and reminded me of your thread... bent in the same direction too... |

Doesn't the reset direction take the shortest path such that it can and does go in both directions. My guess is the hand snagged on something when it reset in a counter-clockwise direction between 12 and 6. (I think I got that right). I would think it hit a hour marker otherwise something else would look askew.

It may also be the watch has some age on it and with all the chronograph use over the years which has a fair amount of torque in the reset, the metal in the hand may have simply hit the fatigue point and bent. Simple fix by Rolex.

just picked up the watch... had it serviced directly from rolex here in NY. All six hands were replaced; apparently the technician noted that the hands were bent up in the center and do not reset to zero. the watch used to stop with the chronograph needle in the same place every time... seems to be running normally now. also, the bezel is now aligned.
still no idea how it all happened in the first place though... |
