When does Rolex know difference between AM & PM?

During what hours does a Rolex with the QuickSet feature know whether the next 12:00 will be noon or whether the next 12:00 will be midnight?

As Mark Twain said, "It ain't what you don't know that gets you into trouble. It's what you know for sure that just ain't so."

I figured I'd ask the question even though the chances of getting hijacked within three posts is fairly high. If you are really desperate to add to your post count, just tell me that if my watch changes the date at noon, then my watch was designed for the other side of the world. Or just use

Anyway, I always "knew" that you only used the QuickSet feature in the morning. I "knew" that if you used it in the afternoon or evening, the date would change at noon, not midnight.

Yesterday (October 1), I picked up my DJ from SF RSC. The work had been completed September 30, and the watch indicated 31 for the date. So Giovanni adjusted the date to 1, and he used the QuickSet feature at around 3:00 PM. The watch knew it was 3:00 PM and not 3:00 AM. Giovanni explained about the date wheel being disengaged during certain hours and that you could use the QuickSet feature to change the date and it would click over to the next date as soon as the next 12:00 came around.

Well, I'm usually awake around midnight anyway. About 11:45 PM I started watching the watch. Midnight arrived. Midnight went, but just briefly. Approximately 18 seconds after midnight, click. The date changed.

So, during what hours of the afternoon and evening does it know to change the date the next time 12:00 comes around?

Serious answers welcome. Hijacking expected.

Rolexers do it with perpetual movements.

It takes 2 turns of the hour hand around the clock for the date to change, hence, turn 1 am, turn 2 pm and voila, date changes (;

it is my understanding that the watch starts building up energy around 10pm
this energy builds and at aprox midnight clicks over the date and day in DD...the energy is then all out by 2am....to test this try changing the date at 9pm and then at 9am you will see the date wheel is "looser" in change at 9am and "tighter" in change at 9 pm
