Volvo to produce only electric or hybrid cars

https://www.google.com/amp/www.chica...story,amp.html

I know we have discussed this ad nauseum on here (we don't bicker or have disagreements on TRF do we? ) but personally I welcome this news. I am writing g this on my phone so will explain my reasons later when at a keyboard, but I feel (and the article states) that this is he future, and other manufacturers are scheduled to follow suit.

What do you guys think?

Infrastructure is not in place to do this on a mass market. Maybe in urban/metro areas, but what about rural areas. Where I live there is not one public charging area and no apartments/condos are set up for this.

I'm not sure if it's the future of automobiles, but I do know that it's not as "green" or "clean" as they have you believe. The rare earth metals needed for the batteries are mined, which consumes a lot of energy and dumps chemicals into the ground. Fracking and oil drilling also does this, so they're not innocent either. It takes electricity to charge those batteries, so it's most likely coal or nuclear. Coal is also mined and nuclear has spent fuel rods that need to be disposed of. Plus, once the batteries in these cars die, you have to dispose of or recycle all that heavy metal waste. It will be very interesting to see where this goes. Until then, I'll be driving my Crown Vics and Mustang with a big ass V8 engine sucking down those dead dinosaurs.

There are tradeoffs and would want mandatory emf shielding laws in place. When I drove my prius. I didn't feel good (no offence Abdullah)

I don't believe this will happen, maybe they want but that is not the same as the market want.

What is best a custom Rolex or a Rolex that is stuck in custom?

Buy a professional camera and you´re a professional
photographer, buy a flute and you own a flute.

Unless the cars will come with a coupon good for installation of a charging point at a location of your choosing .. I can't see this happening

Though Volvo have never really been known for exciting drivers cars more just reliable cars that go on forever so there are no performance/enthusiast customers who will be disappointed when there is nothing in the range for them...maybe electric is the way to go for the typical Volvo driver
