Would you do this trade

Hey guys,

This is totally hypothetical by the way.

The Zeitwerk is by far my favorite watch ever made, the WG with black dial is a perfect watch in my eyes. This watch retails for around 77k, they can be found for 47-55k

If I could trade my 5711 and my 16528 for one, would you? Would it be a bad trade in your opinion?

I feel like both of my watches I own now have the potential to gain value over time, I'm not sure about the ALS.

Thanks!

A good condition 5711 is probably worth $28k-31k and the 16528 probably $16k-19k, so say you're into the ALS for $44k-50k and only 1 watch to maintain going forward. I'd probably do it.

Edited to add:

Who knows what could happen, but the big depreciation hit on the Zeitwerk has already been taken. I think it could hold or increase in value over time, but realize you're selling back into a much smaller market. Fewer Zeitwerk/ALS lovers than PP/Rolex, and fewer $50k+ watch purchasers than $20k+/-.

I would do that trade. The ALS is freaking awesome. The others are awesome as well, but you already said the Zeitwerk is by far your favorite watch ever. Based on that statement alone, don't you have to get it?

I don't know how well the zeitwerk would work as an only watch. In theory I guess the trade could make sense, but the 5711 is so much more versatile. With that said, if the zeitwerk is perfect in your eyes, that's probably the watch you should get

Not a big Daytona fan, love 5711/12´s so would be hard for me to sell both for a Zeitwerk, even if I love the Zeitwerk, but if it is your all time favorite watch do it, it wouldn't be hard to only have a 50k watch to wear? At the same time almost no one knows about Lange so chances of getting mugged for it are slim I guess. So yeah do it

Though one.

I am not a fan of the Daytona. I would save up and trade the Daytona for the Zeitwerk.

Zeitwerk + 5711 sounds like horological heaven to me.

No way, because zeitwerk has never been an attractive piece for me albeit it's construction is beyond limits and over engineered to do what it's meant to do.
If we talked about Datograph or Double Split, I would say yes. What Zeitwerk is doing to A Lange Sohne is like what Milgauss or Air King is doing to Rolex.
A totally polarizing watch in its own right

Since it is by far your favorite watch ever made, you would have to do it if the opportunity presented itself

I would make that trade if you don't have to add money.

Yes if it is your all time favorite watch, do it, just be sure to have something to wear when you can't wear the ZW

I like the Zeitwerk as well. Not sure it could be my only watch.. It is large and heavy but I can see the attraction and desire to own.

I'm not a Daytona fan, so I would def do it.. I've actually been thinking of trading my Pt AP 44 for one myself.

I think the ZW is horribly ugly. There. I said it.

First, the case shape and the extra .9mm diameters over the Dato make what is a thinner watch than the Dato look like a monster on the wrist. For you that might not be an issue but you need to be sure if it's going to be the primary watch.

Second, the minute discs do not seem to align correctly on all of the ZW I have seen. That drives me crazy (at that price). Someone with better knowledge of the ZW can chime in on this but I've seen 4 or 5 in person and all have the same issue.

Third, as someone points out above there is the liquidity issue. Even assuming values of the three watches in play remain the same you have two which you could sell in days and another, the ZW, for which the depth of market is so shallow you could be sitting on it for a year (assuming you are not just dumping it). I have a few watches like this for which there is a very small market and it is a concern as we are talking about a lot of money.

Fourth, the power reserve.

Fifth. ALS just sucks on residual value. I don't see that changing. Just make sure your entry point is right. (I say this as a fan and owner of ALS).

Finally, having said all of that I do really appreciate the ZW for being different. I have a watch with jump hours/minutes and am super excited to have something different on the wrist from time to time (the ZW was in the running at the time but It wasn't wearable for me and there were some other annoyances as I mentioned above). I also believe that if it's something you've longed for and have the means to make it happen then you should do it.

That's my 2 cents!

No Mike, don't do it, the PT44 is the watch for you, don't know you more than from TRF, but I think the AP is much better suited for you than the Lange

Don't do it. Only because ALS doesn't have its own subforum... You would get bored.

Oh you're 100% correct, the AP is much better suited for me. I just love that piece and the digital display. Amazing piece.

Yeah, I'm not a fan either. Looks too much like a flip-panel clock to me. But I'm a hopeless traditionalist. My wheelhouse is the Rolex GMT2 Pepsi and the Omega Speedmaster. What can I say? I'm kinda vanilla in my watch tastes.
