Cellini--where's the love?

I recently noticed one of my colleagues wearing a Cellini (model unknown)...it was a 40th anniversary gift from his wife. It looked very classy.

That made me wonder why the Cellini isn't popular, at least according to the comments I've seen on this forum.

Is it because the watches are overpriced for what you get, compared to equivalent watches from other luxury brands (e.g. Patek, IWC, etc.), because they are quartz watches, or some other reason?

If I wanted a real dress watch, I'd look to another brand. They just don't tickle my fancy, especially at those prices.

This forum seems sports watch oriented
Rolex Professional is the designation.

I guess I equate Rolex with a mechanical watch. The Cellini line seems, well, like a stepchild of sorts - it doesn't seem to fit in with what Rolex is all about.

It reminds me of something like having a snappy little sports car - with automatic transmission.

True.

I like the Cellini Cellinium. Platinum case and buckle, glacier blue dial, black strap with manufacture mechanical movement. Not in the budget though. If I had the money, I would get that over a steel Patek mechanical. Better value to me.

Now if it was between a steel Daytona or that same Cellini? The Daytona wins, hands down.

Prince anyone? ... Anyone?....

Did you have to bring that up?
The first time I saw those models my eyeballs almost popped out my eye socket! Just so not my kind:

I actually think the white Gold Prince is a stunner with the Silver/Black dial.
If I had the money to burn I'd have one.
I almost bought one on release, but couldn't bring myself to take the obvious hit if I had to sell.

P.s. as you can see I stole the picture.

If I were going to go for a dress watch and spend Cellini money I would be looking at Frank Muller, A. Lange or GO.

These are Rolexes with no image...

Everybody has seen or been influenced by a DJ, a Sub, GMT during childhood through relatives or TV / Movie... and as a Rolex is expensive... and even if i like the brand i will by before a Cellini :

- a 16600
- a 16610
- a 116710
- a 16710 Pepsi
- a SS Daytona
- ...

Most people would go to another brand. If I wanted a dress watch, I'd fork over the money for a Patek.

Totally agree Marc, but in all fairness you can't get much solid gold Lange or Muller for Cellini money.
As Gold dress watches go they aren't exactly expensive.
The very TOP aren't Lange One money, but I personally would have a pre-owned Lange/Patek over a new Cellini, but that really wasn't the question in the OP.

While it would be easy to say one dislikes the looks of the Cellini line, the real reason I propose (like others) is that the core competency of many other brands in dress watches and they simply make more attractive products.

I like to Cellini Prince but it priced way to high for a manual watch. I would buy a lot of other watches before I woud get one of them.
