Good post, clever approach. Are you old enough to know 'Call of the Wild' by Jack London?

Continued, Part VI
Not everything was outdoorsy. I’ve been to the usual Touristy places like Disney and the like, but despite being a “dressy” watch, I kind of like being outdoors. I’ve seen a LOT of water, far more water than I could ever imagine. But nobody took pictures of that, at least not before the “Selfie” was invented. But here I am and the aquamarine water? That’s the Caribbean. I would have liked to have seen the Antarctic Ocean but that was never to be. But I have seen Haleakala and the Blue Pacific. Who doesn't like seeing the sunset over the Pacific? Once, I saw a black bear up close and personal, in this place. No, not down in the ruins but rummaging near the hotel. I was REALLY scared. That bear was big! What’s with him and bears? I do NOT want to end up as Bear dung. I also hanged around where they shoot the Westerns, but I didn't see John Wayne. Bummer But I did love the beach. Driving, hiking, horseback, swimming, I liked it all. Its stuff a watch can dream about doing. And I never got tired of it. Oh, I wound down some times. We all get tired, but I sprung right back up. My owner has been reading I might be “vintage”. I don’t even know what that means. Sure, I’m over 30 but do you humans think you’re vintage because you are over 30? C’mon, how would you like it if everyone called you vintage? What about everyone over 50, what are they maybe Ancient Antiques? You'd think I was a sundial or something. I'll have you know that I am described as a: "officially certified chronometer" right here in my Brochure, The Rolex Oyster, I have no idea what that means, but it sounds official, and my face says "Superlative". So there, I'm not vintage, I'm superlative. Since I have no idea, nor really care, what the definition of vintage might be, I prefer to think of myself as "mature", "seasoned", "experienced", or "timeless". Yup, I think I'm 36mm - timeless, a face to be seen in any decade |

Continued, Part VII
As I started to get older, I didn’t travel much anymore. I wasn’t heavy on the wrist, just an old friend, a familiar face, and always there to lend a hand. I was never pampered, certainly not like when I was a baby. I'm well into my fourth decade now, a bit beaten up but hey, if you’ve seen what I’ve seen, you’d be beaten up too. I got no complaints. My owner never knew I could be sent in to Rolex and cleaned up. I was not jewelry to him, just a watch. As I got older, instead of “doing” much, I ended up “taking pictures” more of wildlife and such. It was hard not being “among” the wildlife but now just watching them. Oh the glorious wildlife I’ve seen. From Grizzly bears to Mountain Goats to Golden Eagles, I’ve seen so many animals in person, what’s a watch supposed to think? I got used to the smell of being on horses. Now I was relegated to just watching. By the time I had entered my fourth decade, I had a lot of scars, but I kept on ticking. Is it back to the drawer? I don’t glow in the dark anymore, my tritium long since gone. BTW, exactly what is tritium and whatever happened to Radium? Radium sounds so much more cooler. Tritium? Weird. Half lives? I guess that means the end is near. I never knew I would no longer glow in the dark. No one told me. At least in the drawer, when I was young, I could see! But that was then, and this is now. And now my glow has faded to nothing. All things come to an end. I always knew someday the adventures would end, but I promised myself I would not be sad when that day came. I won’t be afraid. I would put my best face forward. No, I will lift my face upwards and take what life throws at me (as long as it’s not bear dung). I’ve been not just a lifelong companion to my owner, but a reliable part of him. I had become part of his wrist. We were like good buddies, him and me, together forever. Riding off into the sunset. And if I am relegated back to the drawer, well he will always know I am there, waiting to lend a helping hand. Some people talk about that a man doesn’t need a watch anymore. What’s the point? Everyone has a smartphone in their pocket. What’s a watch to think? I guess I am an old soul, whose time has come. I have become obsoleted by computers, digital devices, and all good things must come to an end. I just never thought it would be so soon. I'm going to miss the adventures, the good times we had together, the food, the drink, the wine, the drives, the (oops, forget about that part). I will take my rest now. I just hate it when my ticker slows down and I come to a rest. I know what it means. |

MrTwi,
Outstanding read and I love your imagination. I am going to sneak into the office and see if I can catch my watches talking to each other. Maybe I will just set up a voice activated recorded and catch them that way. |
