Originally it was released one year after the Rolex Submariner and was called the Tudor Submariner. The name was changed to differentiate it from it's Rolex brother, probably by a committee of marketing wonks. As to exactly why the name "Black Bay" was chosen, you'd probably have to ask the folks that chose it.
