Failed pressure test

Hello

It is often suggested that watches are pressure tested prior to wearing then to go swimming. Has anyone had a watch which has failed a pressure test?

If so, can you tell us why, how old the watch was, when it had previously been serviced etc

I suspect that watches failing pressure tests are very rare.

Thanks

I've had an old Omega Seamaster fail a pressure test, due to a damaged case back. My newer Seamaster and none of my Rolexes have ever failed a pressure test, but they are all within 8 years old.

many older watches fail, especially if case back is corroded

Hi Ratty

Every pre owned watch that I have bought and was serviced by an independent failed a pressure test. I have a Daytona that I would never use whilst swimming, so I have not bothered with that one.

I have a golden rule, always put a recently purchased sports watch in for a service by Rolex within days of buying it. If you get sea water inside a watch, it will cost you mega bucks to put right.

Regards

Mick

10 years ago I bought a used 5513(I think it was from late 70's) and got it pressure tested. It leaked badly. I wasn't told where it leaked from but I would guess from the plastic glass.
