Coming Soon, to a (operating) theatre near you!

Well, it was bound to happen sooner or later. Nurse Practitioners, Nurse Anesthetists, and now... Nurse Surgeons.

Anyone foresee any problems with this, or is it the evolution of health care?

At least this one is easy on the eyes...

It's the dumbing-down of healthcare in the UK. In plain terms, they are cheaper and more plentiful than doctors.

The nurse endoscopy practitioners I've worked with behave like droids. Fine when everything is straightforward (actually not fine because they biopsy everything in sight, and we are left wading through reams of the histology reports they generate on exciting things like fundic gland polyps, etc.)

When brown stuff interacts with fans, they are very far from fine because they have almost no "hinterland".

It would depend on the complexity of the surgical procedure. For those old enough to remember, there was a time when dentists cleaned teeth, performed dental X-rays and did their own crown & bridge work. Now these routine tasks are relegated to dental hygienists and dental labs.

The medical profession is getting streamlined as well.

I'm OK, no reason women can't operate as well as a man. Wait...what was the question?

Is this about all the medical urgent care offices that are popping up everywhere? And now you can walk in and get an operations on the fly?

No it's not about gender, female doctors and surgeons are not uncommon. The question is do you really want to choose to have an unqualified person of any gender operating on you? My answer is no.

On a selfish note, interacting with these people on a professional level is always difficult as their comprehension of human physiology and medicine is very limited.

As someone who went through a pretty major surgery last week I can say this scares me.

I am sure 99 +% of all surgeries go as planned but that <1% is oh so important. Experience and training are a must. Not sure how med mal lawyers are in UK but that will have the one's in the US licking their chops.

Even though they say its for skin cancer excisions, grafts and flaps, this really opens the floodgates. Whats next?

I already have issue with going to my dermatologists office where my derm is there 2 days a week. The rest of the time two NP's are running the show and bill my insurance as if the derm was there instead.

Unfortunately for you, you live in one of the worst value for money medical arenas there is - the USA.
