New leather strap...without holes for the springbar!
Just bought a new leather strap from a custom strap maker, and it is not made with holes at the watch end to slide the springbar through! Is this a common/standard thing?

I'm not sure it really counts as a watch strap if it can't connect to a watch.

Contacted the maker and he said the holes are there, he just polished the strap edges over them so they're not visible and said he forgot to open them up before sending

Just slide a tooth pick or a small jewelers screwdriver into to open it up.
