One is a mini mechanical factory which is a wonder and can last generations if well taken care of, the other is a microchip with circuits and a screen, a gadget which will have a 2-4 year lifespan. To each his own, for me no thanks, never...

I've got enough electronic geek-stuff in my life out of necessity, but my wrist (and garage, hangar, unmentionables cases, etc) is reserved for mechanical geek-stuff.

More and more I find it a pleasure to be in places where everyone isn't walking down the street/through buildings and sitting in restaurants staring into their smartphones (and now watches) oblivious to the real world around them. At best these zombies are an annoyance. At worst they get themselves and others killed because they can't drive without being able to stare into some screen, live stream their activities, or text/message.

Apple Watch/electronic geek stuff is just another form of pretentiousness, as if being always and instantly "connected" is of vital importance to their existence. Now they'll just walk into a wall or drive into the back of a stopped truck staring at their wrist instead of a phone.

I'm hoping that the obsession with being totally connected and having to own every new piece of technology is a trend that will eventually subside. We already have PCs and lap tops and tablets and cell phones. Do we really need another gadget on our wrist? At what point do we have technology overload? Plus, one night forgetting to charge it and it's worthless. I live and work in the Silicon Valley and I'm seeing iWatches everywhere. They all look the same. All you see is a black screen. I wear mechanical watches because, like clothes, or shoes, or even tattoos, they show your creativity and individuality.

I totally agree, love having a laptop and Ipad, but even a mobile gets on my nerves sometime, though I agree it's useful, but to have on my wrist something telling me what arrived on my phone? No freakin way
