Ideal daily Sub..
Wondering about input on a daily worn Sub.
I've always been a classics fan, truer to original size/shape, and there seems to be plenty out there in great condition. Obvious advantages to the current Ref. the warranty and ceramic bezel. So what piece would be best for daily wear and abuse from those who've put serious miles on each? Thanks! |

Part of the great part of owning a Rolex is they are built like a tank. They are all tough, you will be fine

Deffo Ceramic.
The bezel will stand more knocks and bangs with less chance of damage than its alluminium counterpart. Also, the glidelock is a godsend on a hot day. Sent from my Moto G (4) using Tapatalk

Any 5 or 6 digit reference should handle the task nicely. If you like classic with some modern touches look at a late model 5 digit, the glidelock though on the 6 digit is a huge bonus.

114060 was my choice. Glidelock is amazing and made me love a bracelet for the first time. Wear it every day.

I have a 14060 in mint condition I love it, it's a superb watch. But from my understanding of the Sub with ceramic bezel and glide lock, this new model is to die for...

I think 14060 fits the bill here if you like classic proportions of a sub....if you don't care for extreme waterproof feature...I'd look at four digits too but you'd have to be more gingerly with them in certain scenarios....warranty is overblown...these things properly serviced/maintained are as rugged mechanical watches can get.

I have owned them all (4,5,6 digit sub, DSSD) and I have now chosen the 126600 as my daily wearer. I like the larger size and the perfect proportions. Never liked the maxi case.

The glide lock is nice but I don't use it as much as I thought I would. If your bracelet it sized correctly you don't really need it. But I would vote for the 6 digit ceramic as a daily. Love my ND.

I've worn my 14060M Sub daily for four and a half years including two deployments to the Middle East. I picked it because it is the most modern iteration of the original. It's lighter but just as durable as the current Sub. It even has the same movement (minus the new hairspring of course). I plan on wearing it daily until the day I take it off and hand it to my son so he can do the same.

It’s a matter of personal preference. Some like the SD43- bigger size & great bracelet. Others the SD4000 -Wears slightly smaller than a sub but all the upgrades and a wrist tank if ever there was one. Others go for the 5 digit series - lighter. Myself I most prefer the subc. I have larger wrists but like the middle of the road weight. Then, of course, there is the date v. No date issue. If you can, try a few. Experience is often the only way of figuring out your best choice.

for daily use with some abuse, i think a 5d is best since parts are cheaper and the bezel insert is a simple DIY.
theres been plenty of threads on cracked bezels on 6d's of different ref#'s and its never a cheap fix. i even had my dssd bezel replaced due to a manufacturing issue and if it wasn't warranty, i'm sure it would have been $1500 or so min. |

I think this is a good choice and, personally, I think it's the ideal Sub.

What GradyPhilpott said. I've got the same 14060M and wear it everywhere. It's taken over my GMT Master's spot on my wrist and I wore that during a combat deployment in Afghanistan. I just feel the Sub is a little tougher (they are probably equal, but that's just me). Heck I've even wore my 14060M to Big Surf and rode all the slides and wave pool (yep the one off the 101). 14060M, wear it anywhere, just set it and forget it...

I have a SubC, Tudor Sub, and a BBN. I've put them all through their paces and all are still ticking away just as they were on Day one of ownership. Worn them in the field, on duty, in the water, during camping, hiking, etc. etc...

I think 14060M will be a first choice with the excellent fallback of a 114060..

14060M.
No need for a ceramic bezel when an aluminum one works just as well No need for glidelock when the prior bracelet is easy to adjust, comfortable, and inexpensive to repair and/or replace. (Love the Rolex logo stamped into the steel.) No need for a maxi-case, when one with lug holes is quintessentially classic. Jason... you know what you want and where to pick one up! |

I went with the 116610 Submariner Date almost four years ago and it has been a great everyday piece.
