Faded 15203 Date Dial - Blue to Grey

I just picked up a 1990 date 2 tone 15203 with a dial that is very faded. Originally a blue dial, now almost slate/grey. Looks to be an original dial not repaired. What would cause this? I've never seen one this faded.

Check for moisture as well. A “damaged” dial likely means the movement may have been affected as well.
