Why would you need more opinions.
I could mythical tell the spelling on the back would be wrong.
Do you think ROLEX do not know how to spell "AT"?

Its FAKE

Anybody know if there was a prize watch given out at 1992 Daytona 500?

The late Davey Allison won 1992 in his final full year.

These were not given out at the Nascar Daytona 500. Rolex did not sponsor that race. Davey received a Trophy for his win.
These were given out at the Daytona 24 hour sports car race. It is Americas version of Sebring or Le Mans.

Yes, that would certainly work.

I sometimes use this for the people that come in wanting to sell a Rolex that "xx" gave them. Like, why would someone give you a $10,000 watch?

Ah the 24hr was wondering, had never noticed Rolex at NASCAR

Even better, 24hr run on 2/2/92 it was won by Nismo with R91CP piloted by Hasemi/Hoshino/Suzuki.

Three watches presented for the drivers each year or are there more?

& wondering why "1992" is so popular vs every other available year

The winners of each class as well as the car owners and crew chiefs would get a watch. I think back then there were 4 classes racing. Each team had 2-3 drivers. So in each years race, maybe 16 watches total or less would be presented.

Most likely the 92 watch was copied at some point and not knowing its significance, the fakers just kept running with it.

Yes sounds like each class winner got them too, lots of chopping & changing of car classes back then too. Teams were 3-5 drivers too, sometimes even shared amongst different cars in same race. Haha very messy for the history books.

Big fan of GrpC and was lucky enough to attend trackside when the Rothmans Porsche 956 & 962C ran rings around everything else. (Didn't pay much attention to the politics behind the racing though.)

Yep same thoughts here.

I kinda think it would be great to own, imagine coming to sell it and getting the all expected eye roll then dropping a huge stack of provenance on the piece in front of an auctioneer. I bet it would make their day too!

I bet there would be others like me who'd be morbidly interested in owning such an infamous piece.

hahaha you & I might share similar dark humour Monty Python much?

Well for sure, if any 1992 winner did gift me his watch I certainly wouldn't look that horse in the mouth.

Hence my curiousity what the "real" item/s actually look like. They're all SS so I read, but I don't know what exact ref or dial.

I am also very curious how a real one looks, to make a good comparison.

Also a less known fact is that a Daytona is awarded to the winner of Dayona 200, motorcycle race, each year. Nobody cares about motorcycles LOL

You do not need more opinions.

It's a fact that there is no authentic "Rolex AD Daytona" inscribed watch on the planet. It is a meaningless inscription that Rolex never used on anything..

To see a real one, check post #4
