Having owned a BB and a Sub, you must have noticed the thickness isn't so dissimilar, it's just the slab sides on the BB and flat case back making it appear that way.

I didn't like the case sides either, but I'm so used to it now it doesn't bother me at all, in fact I quite like it now.

If you've sold it twice already then clearly it's not for you. I'd be interested to hear from some BB 36 owners too.
