114060 as an everyday tool watch.
Have a question for those with the No Date Submariner. I love the idea of having a watch that I can literally wear all the time in every condition. Are late model Subs still designed around durability and hard wear or have they shifted more to the luxury side? I'm not some crazy extreme sports guy but I do a fair amount of travel and water sports. Would love to have a watch that's always on my wrist for the next 20 years.
Sorry if this is the dumbest question ever. |

Not the dumbest question ever.
I bought the 114060 a year ago, and it is the only watch I have worn - for a year. It is fantastic. It will pick up bracelet and case scratches here and there, but the ceramic bezel and sapphire crystal look as shiny and new as when I peeled off the stickers. I am not an expert on the mechanics, but guys on here say it's pretty bomb proof. And - without the date, there is one less complication to worry about. I love my sub no date ceramic - thats for sure! |

It's a fine watch but the large ceramic bezel with a lot of open area makes it pretty flashy and not so much of a tool watch and more of a Jewel watch, imho. Look at the no longer in production 116600 for more of a tool watch. The SD4k has more traditional lines and is less flashy, afaict. It's also a more capable dive watch.

114060, as well as practically all models, can take anything you can dish out. That said, it's a great reference as a daily wearer.

I personally wouldn't choose the SubC as an everyday simply because of the weight and size. I like a light watch that doesn't get in the way for everyday use, so I prefer the 36mm DateJust/Oyster Perpetual/old Explorer I. |

A perfect everyday watch, and one of the best in the lineup IMO.

Have same model OP and it was a daily beater 24/7 for over a year and works great! Many people change to an Everest strap, which i did. Awesome watch, use it for beach, scuba, off-rode bicycling, working on car... it'll give you decades of great use.

I just traded my 14060 for a new 114060 and never looked back but at work, with cars I wear my Tudor Ranger and I love but I can't wait to put the sub on.

114060 is a great daily watch. Rolex are built to last and most will work for a dialy, but the 114060 is one of my favorites.

Heck even my PM Subs have served me well while doing tasks most here would cringe at doing with a gold watch. So I don’t see why a SS Sub wouldn’t be just as robust.

Either the SubC or 2016 Explorer can be the 1 and only watch. Have both ...if you don't need the bezel go for explorer.

I do almost everything with my GMT2 BLRO 16710. I often forget I’m wearing it until I check the time or date (especially when I’m traveling). It comes off at bed time and at the gym, but that’s about it. Up in the morning, shower, and strap it on. If I’m doing something like watching a space-themed movie I swap it for my Omega Speedmaster. But if a Magnum P.I. rerun comes on, it’s BLRO time!

The SubC is as tool watch as ever if not more so with the addition of the glide lock clasp and ceramic bezel. It will take whatever you can and then some. The price, however, puts it in the realm of jewelry for some.

thanks everyone! will update once i make the purchase.
right now it does seem like there's not a lot of SubCs in stores (I live in New York) -- salespeople claiming that Rolex makes a certain amount a year and now they've stopped. Something to worry about? Will there be another restock next year? if so, when? |

thanks for the input guys, i'll update once i pull the trigger.
right now its tough to find 114060s in boutiques. sales people tell me that rolex will make more next year, is this something to worry about? When does Rolex typically "restock"? |

Ceramic is even more scratch resistant than aluminium, I've never gotten one in several years of ownership across many models, and the glidelock makes it even more versatile so it is the perfect daily watch really, esp with date.

It's also pretty my everyday watch. I was against the Sub Date when I purchased it for a few reasons however, now I do kind of wish I got the date. If it'll be your only watch to wear every day, I'd recommend the Sub Date.

I'm coming up on 4 years for mine. Still looks brand new, has handled hunting, fishing, swimming hiking and been in the hot tub and sauna several times. Still looks great at the office. You will not regret it.

114060 is the perfect 24/7 watch. That is how I wear mine. Not too "luxury" at all. It's still a tool. Just a tool with a shiny bezel.
