Interesting convo w/ 10 yr old grandson

Yesterday I was talking about watches w/ my 10 yr old grandson. He said he didn't like the way they feel, but does like FitBits, etc. I talked w/ him about the uber cool engineering aspects of mechanical watches and showed him a video of the 4130 movement. He says "wow.... look at all of those tiny parts". I then held up my wrist and commented on merits of a Rolex. He says.. "wait, that's a Rolex?" Maybe there is hope for the future after all. ;-)

Interesting convo w/ 10 yr old grandson

I'm teaching my kids that technology is not just flashing lights and beeping sounds. Mechanical movement is the the most original form of technology there is. Google the Antikythera Mechanism to be blown away. I deconstruct their toys when they are done, they are starting to gain an appreciation of the inside as well as the outside. What goes around comes around and those younger than us who have forgotten or underrated the mechanical wristwatch will one day be the biggest advocates of them. Just wait and see !

Sweet! It's good to get them started young if you can, especially these days.

Yep, he gets it at 10. He'll be fine.

I'd like to see the video as well.

Please post a link.
