Have Pre-Owned Rolex Prices Gone Up?

Hi Everyone,

I've set aside the funds to purchase my first pre-owned Rolex, and I'm set on either the Sub-C (116610LN) or ceramic GMT Master II (116710LN).

From some forum digging, I've noticed that in the recent months, resale prices on these sports models are going for quite a bit more than they were just half a year ago (CONUS). I was wondering if pre-owned market prices have risen linearly over time and I should just buy now, or if this is a cyclical trend of sorts (i.e. Rolex supplies fewer watches to ADs in Q4) and I should wait a few months?

In a similar vein, should I expect any value changes to these models following Baselworld 2018?

Thanks, and hope everyone has a happy New Year!

Stainless models are up, way up, and will continue most likely.

Prices are definitely up. If I were you, I would wait to see if prices subside after inventory begins to get replenished at ADs which should also reflect in secondary market.

Why are prices increasing? I am also in the market for a GMT II and I see that some that were selling for $5900 in July are now $6900 to $7900. What is causing the spike?

Lack of supply in the first hand market increased the demand and pricing in the second hand market. Many people are patient, but some who are in the "I want it now" phase will pay a premium, and the second hand market knows it. The second hand market pricing reflects it and they have increased in the last few months.

No wonder when I was at my AD today I saw a case and a half of barren shelves. I did not ask, but it makes sense now. What are sub C, no dates going for now at AD's? Still $7500?

Today I dropped by a Rolex AD in San Francisco, they didn't even have have a single SS sport watch in their inventory.

It's amazing to see people struggling to just get basic Sub. But on the other hand, there're plenty of Tudor SS sport watches - Rolex 2nd line.

The 'wait until supply increases/market is flooded/values plummet' comments are interesting, the UK market is still waiting for this and it has been waiting a while

I've been out of the loop on pricing for a couple of years.

I was astounded to see what 16710 Pepsi's are going for on the sales board nowadays.

Almost double what I paid for mine 7 years ago. Kind of makes me second guess my using it as a daily wearer/ beater now...

Lack of "new" inventory has most definitely resulted in the pre-owned market being able to ask for more.

I suspect the always rumored “price increase” might actually be coming in 2018....we’ll see.

Might as well buy now if you're in the market. No guarantees that prices will settle. Wait another 6 months and you might be kicking yourself for waiting.

Now is the time to buy other brands until things cool out with Rolex. When they are done trying to put the Mom and Pop AD's out of business by not giving them inventory, prices will cool down.

I would hold off a few months to see what happens when inventory picks up again, which it should in the next few months. These are silly times.

I should sell my 16610 and make a decent profit on it while the market is high like this!
