New year thoughts
Happy New Year to all!
I was just reflecting on the year gone by when I looked at my profile on this forum. I joined in 2012 when I bought my first "proper watch" which happened to be a Rolex 116520 white dial. I then reflected on how many watches have been through my ownership since then and I found myself very surprised at the number of them and it's only been 5 years. Some years have been quite dormant but these last two years I admit I've been through a few. Does anyone care to share any similar experiences? I've always bought with the intention to keep but since 2015 only one has remained constant and that is the 79220N which I nearly sold but changed my mind at the last minute and asked for it back from the dealer. The list of watches I have had which I can remember are listed below but not necessarily in chronological order! And of those I still have a few. Daytona 116520 white x 2 Daytona 116509 black wg Speedmaster DSOTM Datejust II silver / Arabic 116610LV x 2 15300st blue Broad arrow bi metal 16610LV x 2 (sold one to my friend non profit) sold the other to liquidate funds at time of need PO 45mm black PO 45.5 titanium blue JLC ultrathin moonphase silver CW trident SH21 BLNR TG grand carrera 8 GMT brown VC overseas deepstream 15400st silver 116622 blue 116610ln 116713ln Tudor bbn Tudor bb dark Seiko presage power reserve Casio edifice toro rosso Heuer Autavia 85th SD43 (thought I'd love it but realised it was way too thick for my liking) Calibre de Cartier diver blue Need to calm it down... |

No I was / am a bit obsessed. My wife says that too though credit to her she's been relatively understanding.

I've had a similar experience! I bought my first proper watch (my Explorer) in February. Since then... (in no particular order)
Seiko SRP777 "Turtle" Omega Constellation Globemaster (white dial/bracelet) Tudor Black Bay Blue (ETA) Seiko SNZF17 "Sea Urchin" Seiko SKX007 Oris Big Crown ProPilot Date (grey dial) Seiko Marinemaster 300 SBDX017 Tudor Submariner 79190 Seiko SBQJ017 Oris Artelier Date (Two-Tone) Tag Heuer Professional 1500 Out of those, the Tudor Sub was a purchase made last week (and I'm in love) and the Tag I inherited from my grandfather when he passed. Everything else is either gone or marked to be sold.

I don't know which I will keep for the long term except the Tudor, because I really like it, it wears well on me and it suits most occasions. I like to research the watches before I buy and I usually get caught up in the moment and I feel I need to own it but once I do my feeling towards it change!
Currently I have the Heuer Autavia 85th - bought because I wanted a chrono (in house movement as well). The problem with the Daytona is it feels too small on my wrist.Oh! I had aTudor Fastrider black shield too which I didn't get on with! I think this will stay with me awhile, I listened to Biver's interviews and hope he can turn Heuer around. VC Overseas - because I really like it and I got it at a good price! This will stay until I have the "holy trinity" unless another VC replaces it. 15400st - keeper, beautiful dial, bracelet and movement! And I've grown to appreciate and really like the size without the depth. 116610LN - only just got it. Really nice but I tend to pick up the Tudor BB over this. 116713 - still here because it's my only GMT and bi metal. Seiko presage - keeping because there's no point selling it and it has a power reserve haha! Casio Edifice - keeper, holiday watch when I am with my children |
