He sounds like he did in the 80’s and performs like a young man. I was actually worried about him a few times. He’s rather portly clearly not overly healthy.

I wondered before the show, why does this legend do this. He doesn’t need the money. He’s got to be tired at this point. What’s the point? I’d be sipping tequila in Mexico if I had his money and experience. Id be chilling.

But after seeing him perform, and the adoration of the crowd, it’s easy to understand. I’d not be able to give up that kind of energy either.

When Pinao Man finally played the entire place sang along. It was really special. And this guy does this ALL THE TIME. Wow.

Just so impressive.

To prove his relevance. Some artist are happy to walk away from show biz, for other's it's their life.

There’s nothing like live music IMO and I think these performers feel the same way. Some don’t need the money, but they are addicted to the rush they feel from performing and the energy of the crowd.

Sounds like a memorable time, drinking is fun, but we always have to pay for it, when in my twenties and early thirties it was what we had to do for a good time, drink, get hammered, pass out and then somehow work thr next day and it was very do able. Now at 47, with a 10yr old and 8yr old, in fact since they were born, it goes like this, drink, get $h!t faced, have a bad sleep, wake up with massive head ache, stomach in knots, kids screaming and making you want to jump out of a window all the mean while, painfully smiling at your wife that everything is fine and her smirking knowing that you are struggling. Lately, it doesn't seem worth it anymore.....the best thing for you, is that you remembered everything last night with no foggy moments!

I typically don’t have more than two or three alcoholic drinks in one day but was getting into the habit of drinking pretty much every day. My wife and I stopped that a few months ago and now we only have a drink or two on the weekends only. I find that I sleep better, I have more energy and I really don’t miss it.

To try to answer the question of why Billy Joel still performs, I think it is one of those things that he just enjoys doing. I’m sure it has to feed your ego to feel the energy of the crowd and the adoration but he must love it or he wouldn’t do it.

My parents were both musicians, my mom plays the oboe in an orchestra and a quartet to this day and she’s in her 70s. She does it because she enjoys it. It gives her something to strive for excellence in, and she’s pretty good at it too. My dad taught music and played in a band his entire life. He could play any instrument and he could conduct an orchestra. It was his passion. I think this is why Billy Joel still performs.

Seth, I didn't mean that to be cynical. Sinatra, The Stones [my favorite], etc, long after they have written and recorded hit songs deserve to enjoy the fruits of their labor and popularity.

As a musician for the past 3 decades I sure as hell would if I had hit records from the past that would allow me to continually perform to large crowds today.

I'm in the recording studio now working on a spring release so maybe this is my chance. But at my age it better happen quick.

He always has a guest pop in for a song or two at almost every show, last I saw him at the Garden (I believe 2015), AC/DC popped in and they did Highway to Hell.

Always sold out, pro tip (I've been to 3 of these):

If you go again, just wait until like 6-7pm night of show, then grab them on Stubhub as the remaining sellers get desperate.

thats a super good idea.

my wife picked them up for an xmas gift.

next week, we go to see Hamilton. I picked those up for her.

not sure which was more expensive. but I guess experiences are worth it. certainly last night was unforgettable.

Saying I'm in the industry is like equating lightning and lightning bugs. And stop calling me Shirley!

Having said that, the past 30 years have been beyond my wildest dreams. Played over 2500 gigs between Chicago and Memphis, performed with everyone from Dion, The Stray Cats, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, to James Hetfield [Metallica], recorded 4 CDs [working on #5 now], and every moment has been a blast.

I haven't seen him in a couple years but was going to the Garden about twice a year for his shows. It never got old hearing all the hit songs. On a side note, a member of his band, the guitarist started out as singing in a Billy Joel tribute band. The guy is awesome and his voice sounds a lot, I mean a lot like Billy's. He still plays in that band every so often, it's called Big Shot. I highly recommend them if they are playing in the Long Island NYC area. Almost like a Billy Show

Seth - been to see him a few times - awesome show. Actually was looking at tickets on Stubhub for Thursdays show.

As far as why ~ I would imagine it's because he really enjoys it. Doesn't hurt that he consistently sells out the Garden.

Last time we saw him it was with Elton John at the garden that was a hell of a show!
