I have been trying to establish online if there are any clear rules on paying import tax on a gift from the US?
Info online is not very clear and my best friend who recently moved himself and family back to the US would like to send a gift but I am concerned I might need to pay import tax?,,,
I wondered if a high value pair of trainers or a nice watch etc would be taxable even though it was a gift?,,
Any replies much appreciated,,

What happens if someone just doesn’t pay the import tax and just brings a watch in?

What are the consequences if any?

Tax is liable on the value of the item, gift or no.

You mean if you buy a watch in the USA and omit to declare it at any EU border? Did it many times and never declared anything,watches,jewels or whatever else. I mean,screw them,really..
