1987 Men's GMT value

I received my father's GMT upon his passing. It could probably use a an overhaul. It is a 1987 Serial # R16760A. I realize I don't have any pics right now, but could add some in future.

I’m sorry for your loss. I hope the GMT provides daily memories of your dad.
Just a suggestion, you may want to edit your post, if it’s not too late, and remove the serial number. Just saying “it’s an R serial” is enough information for anyone to have.

16760 is the reference number, like a model number. That reference was the first of the GMT-Master II's with an independently adjustable 24 hour hour hand as well as the first GMT to feature the black & red "coke" bezel insert. This watch has the the nickname "fat lady" because the case is extra thick in order to fit the aforementioned new mechanical movement.

Value could be anywhere from $6,000-10,000 depending on condition, originality, and whether you have any of the original accesories like the box or warranty paper. Post some photos! Hope this helps and sorry to hear about your father.

Unless you changed it to that intentionally.

That’s the model reference after the “R”...

Value could range from $7K-$9K depending upon condition and if he saved all the boxes, papers, etc...

As others have noted, the value is priceless since it was your father's watch. If you send it to an RSC, they'll probably tell you to insure it for $8K or more.

Sorry to hear about your fathers passing, I know how rough that can be.

What a fantastic watch! I would contact several of the independent watchmakers on this site for your service. They will keep the original dial/hands/bezel etc..

Post some pics of that bad boy!
