Question about NY RSC

My 2 yr warranty is almost up, and I have noticed my second hand (on my daytona) does not reset exactly to zero. It might be nothing, but I want it checked out while I am under warranty none the less. I also noticed the time is a little slower than usual.

My question is, since I work about 20 blocks from the NY RSC on 5th ave can I just walk in unannounced and drop my watch off? Or do I need to call in and make an appt? Do I need my warranty papers or will they know my warranty status via serial number?

Ive been there before to take the green sticker off of my caseback and they did not mention anything, but maybe this is a little different.

Thanks in advance!

You will need your warranty paperwork if you want to have some work done under the warranty..

Otherwise they may try to talk you into a full service to correct these issues..

I was recently told that the policy at Beverly Hills RSC is first come first serve. So, at least at BH you do not need an appointment. Would be worth a call though - save you the walk or the taxi....

No appointment is needed, but I would avoid the NY-RSC like the plague. Better to send it to Dallas or BH.

They really that bad? I'm here in Jersey like yourself, and it's tough to think about not just handling service in Manhattan as I am often there for work.

I'll put it this way, I sent my WG-President across country to CA after they butchered it up and gave me an estimate for 5 times what the watch actually needed in service. Enough said, you have been warned.

Alan,

I can only echo what Wolfgang said. My experience hasn't been the best. Dallas or Beverly Hills on the other hand.....

my AD stated that all warranty work on new daytonas has to be done at NYRSC. after the inital warranty is up, you can send it anywhere.

Not sure about warranty work, but my experience with NY/RSC hasn't been that great. I can appreciate how close you are but you may want to heed the voices of experience on here. My AD in Ohio sends everything to Dallas so there might be a reason.

My watch issues/maintenance has been done by RSC-NY, but it was sent to them by my AD, so I don't know if that makes a difference. They even polished the bracelet on both occassions.

It's all so variable...I've had nothing but GREAT experience with Rolex New York.

Dallas, on the other hand--HORRIBLE. I sent my Sub to Dallas for service and it was returned NOT RUNNING, DEAD, NOTHING MOVING whatsoever.

Had to send it back and they kept it for ANOTHER six weeks.

This also happened to a friend of mine here in Denver except he had to send his watch back to Dallas TWICE.

I'll never send another watch to Dallas but will send to NYC.

I think the key take-away here is: Your Mileage May Vary

As a younger man I worked at Harley Davidson dealerships, first as a mechanic and then as a manager. One thing I learned is that even at the best dealerships there were going to be people that had less than stellar experiences. Mistakes happen, both administrative and technical. The real litmus test is how an organization handles those problems, and ultimately, what lengths they are willing to go to in order to salvage a client relationship.

A lot of things can be forgiven if there is a genuine desire by the dealership to rectify any element of customer dissatisfaction. So my question is...does NY RSC treat service clients like valued customers or beggers off the street?

Although this certainly isn't scientific, I've sent different watches, one each to California and New York. New York was very positive, good communications, and addressed the sort of specialised requirements I had (not terribly hard, in my opinion, however). California was unimpressive on the phone, couldn't do what I (reasonably) asked, was less-than-responsive, and not the sort of "white glove" experience I'd expected.

Hence my Quote of this response as part of my answer.

Find a good local watchmaker, they are cheaper, faster and do the same (if not better) work. There are two in my area, I use the watchmaker at the local Ben Bridge and another independant, both do superb work.
