Even though it's not on your list, consider GMT II instead of a Sub if he likes GMTs. Then he doesn't have to wear his "crappy" Tag ever again :)

I love the DJ, but not a fan of the larger ones. Since he likes sport watches I for sure go with the Sub, no question.

Sub x10000 - if he has a GMT Tag it shows he prefers the tool aspect of a watch and this seems so much more appropriate

First off, how very generous of you! Good form. IMO you can never go wrong with a Submariner with date. He will absolutely love it. Good luck

Which one for a gift?

I don’t thin 1mm in case size matters in this question.

If you are office types, the DJ is my suggestion. The Sub is fine if he’s a water sports fan.

My thought is gift him the one he wants. Set it up with your trusted AD to let him do by to pick a black dialed Sub, or a SJ41 where he can choose from available dial colors. He gets the satisfaction of the gift and the. Has to go through “incoming agony & ecstasy” for a month.

how old is your employee? under 45, Sub. over 45, Datejust. If he likes outdoor and water sports, definitely Sub.

Great gesture. I vote sub but maybe since he has a GMT Tag he’d appreciate the function of a gmt master II?
