NYC ADs

Anyone have a good working relationship with the ADs in NYC? Was thinking about hitting one or two up this weekend to see what SS options they have. I've popped into the Torneau across from Bryant Park a few times but nothing. Curious if anyone has any intel on the other locations. Cheers...

Stay away from Tourneau. Liars and cheats. And yes, I bought a YM from their 53rd and Madison store. Nothing good will happen if you deal with them. Pm me if you want the gory details. But with DavidSW and other trusted sellers there is no reason to risk dealing with the awful people at Tourneau.

NYC is among the worst places to look for SS Rolex.

unfortunately, in this SS deprived market, you won't find much unless you're been a long time purchaser

best place os Rolex Boutique on 5th but even they are tight on SS. you might see a yacht master or explorer I or II

They could have stuff in their vault but those only come out for existing clients with long purchase history

It’s a long shot but try William Bartman downtown on Broadway. The sales folks down there are pretty friendly and helpful. There’s also London Jewellers down in the Oculus. Haven’t been in there but only a few blocks from Barthman.

Barf at London - I've never seen anything in the case, been in there about a half dozen times... Left them my card for some 2nd tier SS models on multiple visits over the last 6 months, never heard back a thing.

My last visit there, asked them out of curiosity about a Daytona.

My exact question was:

If I buy that DD40, would you sell me a SS Daytona?

Guy responds telling me he wouldn't sell me a Daytona if I hadn't spent at least $250k with him.

Pass!

NYC ADs are the worst. They feed off of uber wealthy bankers as well as tourists who don't care and don't understand the market, IMO. Def not the best market for a savvy WIS.

I do have one hidden gem off the beaten path that I'd like to keep slightly hidden, but anyone can feel free to PM me and I'd be happy to pass the info along.

I’ve had nothing but a fantastic experience with Tourneau at 53rd and Madison. They also get a fair amount of SS inventory since they are a high volume location, you probably won’t be able to just walk in and get what you want, but they’ll probably see it in due time. Not sure why the place gets a bad rap, but it could be salesperson-dependent. Some are much friendlier than others.

I got a call for a Sub after 8 days and passed. Never spent a dime at Tourneau.

Not suprising. Last time I was there it was empty and this was after 4pm on weekday when you would expect more people to stop by. They had a BLRO that had obviously been sitting there for a long time. Pretty dirty and covered in fingerprints.

That London’s ordered a BLNR for me last year with no prior purchase history and had it within a month. They did tell me the only Rolex they could not get me was a DaytonaC. They had told me it could take much longer. I ended up getting one faster from Wempe, which is my favorite AD in NYC and Frankfurt, but they were nice people to deal with.

Wempe put me on their DaytonaC list a year later and even offered me a Hulk that same day. They have impeccable customer service.

My father has a long history with Wempe in a Frankfurt and has always bought his watches and serviced all of them with them. We picked up his YG Breguet Marine 3400BA in October ahead of schedule. It came back in brand new condition. They do have problems sourcing popular SS models but this is the case all over Europe.

Wempe has very good customer service, but don’t expect discounts of note.

I've had good experiences at Wempe NYC, ask for Gennadi. Not sure he'll be able to open all the doors, but he's very knowledgeable and can put you on the list. Wempe is one of the few places where you don't have to "know" someone or put down a ridiculous deposit to be on the list. It took me ~2 months to get a BLNR (end of October 2017 and got it early January).

I agree that Tourneau is the worst!!! Last time I went there, they were taking care of some people who looked blue-collar and just wanted to have a look and try some stuff on. I looked around while waiting and when they left, I overheard them making some of the most snobbish comments I’ve ever heard in my life.

It was among the lines of,” Uh! What a waste of time. They cannot afford any of this stuff. Why do they bother coming in here and wasting our time.” I went there to ask for a DaytonaC of course and I have to say I did have a good conversation with the salesman. He told me that he still has lots of long-time clients that he hasn’t been able to get one for so it was not realistic for him to get me one anytime soon. We then talked about watches for a while and he was pleasant as was the salesman in the Patek department upstairs.

However, they do discriminate based on how they measure you up. If you don’t look like you can afford what they’re selling, you simply will not get great treatment. There are many ADs out there that just don’t act this way. Lorilil jewelers in Forest Hills is very friendly but they’re a much smaller so they will simply not get as many watches as the larger ADs.
