Quartz Royal Oak Battery Change

My wife has a 33mm RO Quartz and the battery is now dead. I need some advice on how to go about getting a new battery.

The forum here says:
10. Stay away from a RO Quartz as changing the battery is something that needs to be done every 2-3 years. To change the battery you need to disassemble the whole watch. Remove the bezel, dial, hands, crown, etc. to access the movement and then replace the battery. If done by an independent there are a ton of things that can go wrong. Then again you will need to have AP do it and it gets really pricey even when it's just a battery change as they will still force you to do a periodic service.

I would prefer not to send it in to Clearwater and skip the periodic service, is this something that my AP AD can do?

thanks

No way i would let anyone other than AP touch my watch. it needs to go to an authorized service center, and clearwater is a good option. Otherwise you are asking for trouble and possibly a more expensive fix later. Didn't canada just get its own service center? It might not have to go to Florida and I think I remember some canadian members saying their watches stayed in canada for an AP service.

Service prices in swiss francs to give you an idea

No, but if I realized the prices for servicing were thisnreasonable, I wouldve picked the tt 36mm that went for $1,500 a few years back instead of my omega

Ask RWT if its a task hes up for, I know hes mainly vintage rolex, but he might be willing to task a battery change

My wife has a very small wrist and cannot pulloff the 15450. The idea of sending it to AP and paying 500 every two years was painful. She agreed and bought a Rolex

The chances of the AD in Vancouver performing their own service work will be almost be straight no. They will highly recommend you to send it the APSC in Ottawa or Clearwater Florida. If they did say: yes, although they are a professional sales/dealer, they may not be best to consider a service work done. Their "watch markers" are designed to help you with a strap change (across all the brands they carry). And to be honest, when I bought my 15400, there was only one sales trained to perform a bracelet adjustment correctly. No one really wanted to touch it there. So short answer is: probably not don't do it at the AD.

I don't think you can avoid the cost of this service if you want the work done correctly.

You could reach out to independent watch markers who "might" take a stab at it, but again they will not have much experience performing the work.

For a piece like this, Otto Friedl located in the Hotel Vancouver might take on the work and complete the task correctly, but again, they will not touch it if they feel they can not provide the service to the standards of their reputation. They come highly regarded for Omega and Rolex as they were previously authorised service centres (until Rolex and Omega decided they no longer wanted independent watch markers representing the brand).

This might come too late, but if you’re in Toronto, Yorkdale has an AP boutique, and Royal de Versailles on Bloor is an AP Dealer. (I’ve used rdv’s service centre for Chopard, and customer service was horrid though)

I just got my wife's RO battery changed by Michael Young and it took all of 5 mins and no where near $500!

LOL! I’m not sure - the last time I was at Yorkdale was a year and a half ago (because I hate their parking lot), but wanted to check out the VCA boutique last week. IWC, Panerai and AP boutiques were open across the hall?!?!?

excellent reason to avoid an AD/boutique.... Parking.

I don't have a car so maybe that is my problem, i cant stay out of the AD.

I got everyone excited for nothing. My apologies. I was thinking about VC. Toronto is still stuck with only rdv as an AP ad.
