Service Issue

Recently I have had my Yacht-Master serviced. It’s a 2002 model F serial number and was purchased used in 2011. I noticed that there were scratches on the bezel, but it never bothered me. Seven years later I send it in to be serviced due to a vibration that was felt when I shook my wrist to adjust its position. When I got it back I see they had polished the bezel and I can’t make my mind up if it is something that bothers me or not. I’m hesitant to say anything but I’m not exactly happy. I will see if I can add before as well as after photographs. Any opinion on the matter is greatly appreciated.

They will polish unless you request otherwise.

There’s not much you can do about it now. You have to make sure to let them know not to polish.

It would not have bothered me as much if they had not scuffed the triangle at the 12 o’clock position.

Looks like it is time for a new bezel.

No!
Rolex can refinish the bezel, my supervisor was trained to do this in Switzerland, we bought the necessary tools and he taught me how to do it as well. The results are amazing.

Before and after pics of a YG yachtmaster, and just and after pic of a plat yachtmaster (which looked just as bad before)

Wow, that's impressive. One would never know.

If you are not happy, I would say something to them. You paid for the service. The last time I had a watch serviced, I did ask the RSC to refrain from polishing the watch, and they did comply with my wishes. Good luck.

Is polishing not an extra charge that would require the RSC to ask before they perform it?

Polishing is part of the full service.

Not an extra charge, but no rebate if you request it not be done.

Update:

I have spoken with the sales rep, who’s a friend, and found that he knows of someone who can restore it for me. They will be taking care of the cost since I paid $907 US for the service. I’m hoping that this will be resolved even if it means being without my watch for a few more weeks. Thanks for the responses.

Nope. You can ask them not to polish, but your price will not change.

I am however of the opinion that every RSC should have the correct tools to refinish the yachtmaster bezel, it is still not required by Rolex to invest in a sandblasting machine... This 10min job makes such a difference though...

I absolutely agree with you Bas. For what they charge they should have every tool necessary. That’s one of the reasons I don’t have my local AD service our watches, I think the RSC in NYC has more/better equipment and training. I still believe that but they, too, may not be perfect.
