Airking 116900 like marmite?
I purchased a new Airking last year and was so close to selling or exchanging it for a submariner. However over the past few weeks it’s grown on me and believe it will be a future icon. There is something special or unusual about this model that sets itself apart from the classic stainless steel models.
Does the forum agree with me? I m interested in other options on the watch? |

It is an unusual watch that Rolex produced. I think it looks unique just wish it had better lume. I want it to have the 3,6,9 lumed like the current Exp1

i like it and i like marmite
My only issue is the 3,6,9... if it was 15, 40, 45 it would still be unique and i would probably buy it. I just don't like the minutes and hours mixing. |

Marmite still baffles me, something I could never love, but I get your point.
I haven’t seen the AirKing in real life, but I do like it’s “off the beaten trackedness”, in that it’s not a typical Rolex. It’s a bold and thoughtful choice, I applaud that and hope you do form a bond with it. |

I do think that what makes AK lose to Exp1 is, precisely, the fact that the 3, 6, 9 aren't lumed.... with those lumed, the watch during the night would be stunning.

The Air King is my favourite contemporary Rolex. It stands out head and shoulders from the others in terms of design prowess, colour and individuality. It’s a beautiful timepiece and more fun than the Explorer. Here you have a timepiece which exudes quality and individuality and is likely to rocket in price once the Bloodhound land speed record attempt is successfully completed this year. My advice is to keep this one in your collection and enjoy it. Wear it with pride because it is a fine fine watch. You no doubt bought it in the first place as it caught your eye standing out from the others in the display cabinet or shop window!?

I love mine as well . I rotate it between the new SD 43. The plan is to pass it on to my 12yr old when he graduates from College. Or in the words of Adam Craniotes “ if he is a little shit I’ll weld a Inviicta to his wrist “

Airking 116900 like marmite?
I was offered one by my AD but opted for an Explorer 1. Air King is now in my radar and hope to complete my “2nd Tier” SS Rolex Trilogy - Milgauss Z Blue, Explorer 1 and Air King soon.

The Airking had really grown on me, but I tried one on over the weekend and it just didn’t look right on my wrist. For the price, I think there are nicer non-Rolex watches out there IMO, i’ll possibly get some heat for saying this too.
Maybe I got use to the look of my Hulk & BLNR, but the outside of the Airking is just too chunky for me and reminds me of my Tag Carrera which is 1/4 of the price. |

I'm the opposite when it comes to the explorer, I prefer it with the white gold numbers. Yes the updated version's lume looks stunning but I don't often see the watch under these conditions and during the day I think imho the white gold numbers look better.

I hate to say it but I think I agree. It's a shame as I love the older Air-Kings and would certainly own one if it was a little larger than 34mm but the new one really doesn't do it for me.

Love the latest AK and couldn't wait to get one. No regrets for me and I think it's something so very different in the Rolex line up. Bold and and understated at the same time but always a Rolex!!

My first Rolex and thought the model is unique and set apart from other classic models. I love it!

I think it’s very unique. Personally I’d opt for an explorer but I still think the AK is a very cool watch. If I were Rolex I would have kept it on the 34mm OP but I can see why they took it off and moved it to another model.

Looking at an exp1 for the next watch but the AK is also under consideration... dial seems a little busy but I’ll definately try it on the wrist before writing it off.

This for me.
As I commented on the post from earlier in the week for the person trying to decide between an Airking and Seamaster - I love the Airking's history and connection to the SSC but when I tried one on I realised I just did not like round faced watches without a bezel. |

I have a SubC and a Milgauss but the AK kept seducing me. Now that I've had it for five months it's my no.1 daily wearer. I've never once tired of it and it's a keeper for sure. Enjoy !!
