Dent on lug from spring bar ejection?
I discovered a nice dent on my lug. Not too sure where it came from, but the dent lines up with the lug hole, which means it could've come from a spring bar coming through the front.
If this is the case, my question is: can a springbar pop out with so much force that it produces a dent like this? Sent from my SM-G935W8 using Tapatalk |

I had a Sinn 104 that I had this happen to on the day I got it. Sinn traditionally has some pretty high tension springs in their spring bars. So, he's it can happen.

Dent on lug from spring bar ejection?
I wouldn't attribute that dent to a springbar since they come out from the reverse side of the watch's case...but even if it was done from topside it would only scratch - not make a dent like that.
That is the type of damage I'd expect from reaching into a tight spot and then pulling your hand out in a hurry. I made an almost identical dent in an old Daytona when I was checking a. Suspension bolt on a race car and the driver fired up the engine. I jerked back and the Dayrona hit the edge of the sway bar. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Do you take the springbar out on the front side?
That's something that needs correction. |

It's possible, if the springbar has missed the hole and been pushed right out the other (front) side, when beng replaced, along with the endlink. Maybe more than once in this case.

Are your spring bars flat on the ends or rounded? They should be rounded to prevent that.

Yep. Absolutely.
That's why springbars with shoulders combined with a proper tweezer tool are so much safer. |

100% yes....and it will look just like that. Ask me how I know. LOL.
All it takes it's one careless slip, ESPECIALLY with Rolex springbars as they are spring loaded so heavily. This is why the 3200 tool is worth every single dollar....best tool ever. |

It would take a really unfortunate knock, but I could see a wayward spring bar doing that.

Dent on lug from spring bar ejection?
Quote:
I thought about that but being a 1680, the endlinks have nice ears that keep them from going past their appointed position.

Yeah, i guess folded endlinks have that advantage over solids. Springbars can still slip when fittng them alone for a nato, or with a leather strap, though. Maybe that was it.

Doubt a springbar did that. I think the nato is your problem. It exposes the sharp inner lug edge to increased beatings, whereas the proper endlink being more level with the lug would have lessened the damage from whatever hit it. Burn that nato! In fact why do you care, you're James Bond.

I just think that's what happens when you wear them. Hence, the name tool watch. Marks like that give a watch character. jmho. Just noticed that's a 1680 red sub. Let's see some more pictures of that beauty.

Yes, it is possible and I have seen it happen. I always tape my lugs with blue painters tape. Most times it's not nessisary but that one time the fork slips.....ugh.

Agree with others above, looks a little deep to be caused by the spring bar

Bumping an old thread. Something similar happened to my watch so yes it’s definitely possible that dent was created by a spring bar.
How does one go about getting this fixed? Can a shop like LA watch works fix that?
