Yes it’s worth the hassle, the upgrade movement and date function is a plus. You will love it

Blue DJ is a GREAT watch. Mine is a staple in the rotation.

I went with the smooth bezel - as I liked the slightly more modern look.

No wrong configuration with this one though. The dial makes it.

Logically, the Datejust 41 is not worth more than twice the price of the Oyster Perpetual 39, but if you really want the former and you're a one watch guy, go for it. Still, you might consider keeping the Oyster Perpetual and saving up for a Datejust. While they are somewhat similar watches, the date, cyclops, dial color, fluted bezel, and jubilee bracelet make them somewhat different.

I went into the AD this weekend to trade in my rhodium OP39 for a rhodium DJ 41. I walked out with the rhodium YM40, which has made my heart race since the first pic I saw of it. The piece is even more beautiful in person. I decided to keep the OP, since they're so dissimilar, and I can make the DJ trade later.

Thank you all for the recommendations and suggestions. I'm going to keep my 114300 for at least a few more months before making the decision. Just the way I do things I guess lol Watch this space though!

I'm happy to hear this. I loved your enthusiasm for the OP 39 when you first got it.

What is the "local used market" ???

When my wife and I looked to sell our DJ26, DJ36, and Sub 16610 last year we had some offers from traders/retailers and considered selling privately.

BUT... when we took these to our AD in the UK he explained that although Rolex won't allow more than a 5% discount on our new DJ31 and DJ41 he could take the three used watches in a trade and offered us MUCH more than we'd been offered elsewhere. I'm talking THOUSANDS more. He could do this as although Rolex monitor the prices ADs sell watches for they don't care what an AD pays for a trade-in. This allowed the AD to effectively discount the new watches by 25%.

Have you told your AD you have a watch to trade? If not, and you're already talking prices and (small) discounts it may be too late to introduce the OP. So go to another AD?

By the way, I'd had my DJ36 for 15 years, initially kept it in the safe when I bought the Sub, but didn't take it out again and after 4 weeks decided I'd fallen out of love with it due to it suddenly looking too small. If you're sure you prefer the DJ41, why keep the OP?

If you can afford both, I’d say keep the OP as it’s your first and resale isn’t great on that watch. It is a fantastic watch though imo.

I would do it in a heartbeat. Never been a fan of the OP at all. Too plain and boring for me.

Hi David. Couldn't help but notice 'Leicestershire' underneath your name. I'm actually a Leicester lad born and raised now living out in Dubai and AbuDhabi. So here in the UAE - AD's dont buy back watches. So that's not an option. Having said that, I'm wondering if I should do that when I'm back in the UK this summer.

I'm weighing up the options. It's just not the right time atm for me to spend that kind of money on a watch I'm only 70% sure about. The other which I didn't mention was the HULK but that's a separate post all together! lol
