This is a bargain considering the asking prices these days. This link might help you.

I'll double check with him on 3.

I am just trying to figure out if what he told me could be true, but it seems like it is probably going to be false.

Thanks again
No problem

Have you tried on the 42mm 216570 polar? The reason I'm asking is because you'd get a complete 5 year warranty AND you can find it all day *under* $8k (brand new). Just some food for thought. That 16570 model is fetching a tiny premium because it's a discontinued smaller size that some (perhaps even yourself) prefer. I wouldn't knock the new model if you haven't seen it on the wrist.

His asking prices for NOS are pretty high across the board. I'm sure he's speculating that there's always one person willing to fork out that kind of dough for a safe queen but they won't be flying off the shelves at those prices.

You should be able to find a mint condition, full-set 16570 with 3186 movement for $5500 to $6500. NOS adds a bit more but if you're going to wear it then the NOS factor goes away pretty quickly.
I see what you're saying.

Thanks !

That has to be a joke, who is paying that? Just because somebody asks this, doesn't mean it's actually selling for that.

That's a good point too lol

I'll see if he's flexible on the price and go from there.

I’d be inclined to wear it and see how it runs. If it needs a service, sobeit and then you’ll have a brand new 2 year warranty.

Agree but I think the OP has a great deal in his hands right now, assuming he is looking for one and prefers NOS.

brand new and will have a 5 year warranty. for WAY less than $8.1k if you're also paying tax at that brick and mortar.

Yes I have.

I tried it on, and it looks a little bit too big on my wrist for my liking.

Then, about 2 days later, I found the 5 digit version, accidentally. I tried this one on, and it fits better.

The bracelets are also different though, so I have some stuff to think about.

What do you think might be fair?

This is for a new old stock (very old lol) Rolex 16570, with engraved rehaut which I think means that it has the 3186 movement.

Thanks!
Take a look over in the For Sale section of this site. They are some very trusted sellers there offering 16570's for $2-3K less so keep that in mind. Don't get fooled by the cal 3186 hype, the cal 3185 in some of the older Exp II's are just as adequate.

If you are buying the watch because you would be the first owner or uncomfortable buying from and online seller, I can certainly understand that.
If you are buying it because it is a great deal, I would advise you to shop around a bit more.

Can't really argue that, especially if it's a late Z, M, V or G serial with 3186 and full stickers. I'd personally get a 216570 at that price but understand one's pull toward the 40mm.

Thanks for your input Flavio

I felt like it is a good deal too, specially because I prefer that 40mm size, and because he offered factory warranty (although now it seems like this isn't going to be in effect).

Also just the fact of finding something new that is several years old is kinda cool (to me).

We'll see I guess.

As mentioned, I will see if he is flexible on the price and go from there.

Yeah, he's asking ~$14k for a 16710 Pepsi which does not have the 3186 movement.

Just one more thing Jesus. If you buy it, wear and regret, it won't be a NOS piece anymore and you'll lose a a lot of money. So think carefully.

I don't think that you can be sure that it has the 3186 movement just because it has an engraved rehaut. What letter does the serial number start with?

Does the watch still have stickers on it? How much can you trust this "former AD"? In other words, can you really be certain that the watch is NOS?

Looking on the Chrono24 marketplace, it looks like a NOS 16570 goes for $7-11k. Even without a warranty, at least you have a better sense of chain of custody on this one vs. other grey dealers.

I would first confirm, perhaps with Rolex, what the status of the warranty is. I would also see where you can negotiate to, given that this watch has sat there for so long. Perhaps start at the last known MSRP for that particular version?

Out of curiosity, what else did that dealer still have in the case that was NOS?

Does the watch have stickers on it?

Do you know that it's a 3186 movement?

Otherwsise $8100 for this watch is a pawnshop deal.

These can be had for much, much less money.

Don't fixate on this one because you've seen it.

Either walk away, or perhaps if you can get in touch with Rolex USA they can clear up the issue for you
