Setting a non quick set date

When setting the date on non quick set date watches, a datejust 1603 for example, after setting to midnight and the date clicking over you have two options as far as I can tell.
1. Spin the hands forward as many times as it takes to advance the date wheel. OR
2. Advace to midnight, click the date over, advance to 2 or 3 am to disengage date change mechanism, then spin hands back to 9pm, forward to advance the date, repeat, etc.

Anyone with a manual with advice? My two references with non quick set date are 1603 and 1655.

Appreciate your input.

Have a 1603 as well and was only aware of option 1.

It can be a pain, so I tend to try and bring mine in to rotation to wear when the current date is just past the date the watch last stopped at!!

Spending a bit of time setting your watch like this is its way of rewarding you for owning it. Savor this time rather than viewing it as a pain.

I used to keep a mental not of my vintage date watches and wait a month and two days before waiting.

I've kept nondate vintage, but my 1680, 1675, and 1601s are non gone .... partially because of the date. I wore my 1680 for 10 years, and when it was was a only watch it wasn't an issue.

When you have a couple dozen in rotation.... It leaves too many variables.

I hear what you are saying and spending my time winding/setting a date on watch is normally a pleasure.
Winding a Rolex with a small crown through 30 days x 24 hours is not my idea of having a good time, but I respect your view

So no one has heard any nightmares about running the hands backwards as described in the original post? As of now I still run it only forwards except for the hour for daylight savings.

A mental not? And waiting a month before waiting? That’s gonna be long...

Fair enough. For me, though, I can think of fewer nicer ways to spend 10 minutes. I really cherish this mechanical interaction. Different strokes...

I wind my 1680 backwards several days at a time for example if the watch is set to 18th and its the 14th I will wind back four full days.

Not tried it the other way as described above.

Couldn't agree more. I dont understand why this comes up so often, from vintage lovers no less.

This is what I do with my blue 1601.

1. Remove from safety dep box
2. Set time
3. Ignore date because I don’t care and I have an iPhone

I set my 1803 by advancing until the date flips and going backwards to reset the day. I keep doing that until it's at the correct date. Not certain if the DJs will work the same way.

You might try this video for more detail.
