AP Diver 15703st Dial Differences
I have been fawning over the AP Diver as a replacement for my Sub I sold many years ago. I have owned a few Rolex's but never an AP for personal consumption. Like many of you who first got an AP, I am super dooper excited for an incoming 15703st!
However, after staring at listing after listing, one thing caught my eye and I am wondering if anyone can elucidate this for me. The 15703st "Audemars Piguet" text on the dial has font irregularities even between the same serial period. My question is: Is it common for font variations on AP products? The tiny WIS in me lead me down a road researching an abundance of Rolex nuances and peculiarities and now I find myself wanting to learn more about the brand I am finally getting acquainted with on a personal level. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Attached are some photos. Both come from previous listings from DavidSW. AP DIVER2.jpg AP DIVER3.jpg Close Ups: APDIVERLOGO.jpg APDIVERLOGO2.jpg As you can clearly see, one font has a curved leg "R", along with longer serifs on the "E" and "T" in "Piguet" - This font is also thinner in appearance vs the other. The other, has a straight leg "R" and shorter serifs on the "E" and "T" in "Piguet" - This font appears thicker than the other. I have also seen some dials with a variation on the internal rotating bezel. The markers are a bit narrower. |

Fascinating, assuming both are authentic watches. I would never have noticed that detail however blown up the fonts are clearly different.

Good eye. I can tell you davidsw is legit as I got my 15710 from him through another member. That’s too small to worry about. Decide on glossy dial bs matte dial w/display case back. I love the glossy dial but if I bought a big 3 watch I want to see the movement when I want to. Good luck in your search.

DSW as legit as one can wish for. I am just curious if this is a recorded and known variation in dials. I'm just nerding out and taking notes!
Itd be the wet dial for me! I enjoy the texture of the dial creation process of the 15703st vs 15710st. |

Yep, I love it better too. Overall I want the option to see the movement. I haven’t heard of the dial changes or inconsistencies before.

Slight variation in dial is not uncommon! Just make sure you buy the watch with the dial you like!

Interesting, now if we could all take out our Divers and buy a camera with a macro lens... nerding out too..and waiting for contributions, perhaps with series/dates, and some 15710s too...
My 2017 15710 looks like the one without the curved leg of the R and the shorter serifs on the E and T. |

If it helps mine is like the second dial example, with the serifed R, i noticed that later divers tend to have a straight R
Mine is a H serial bought back in 2012, same dial is seen in press photos from 2010/11 So i guess we have a "MK.1 serif dial" lol :P |

Very good eye, what about the bezel screws not perfectly seated or lined up to the holes in the bezel

Most ones that have had a service/opened without replacing the bolts look like that.

AP Diver 15703st Dial Differences
Quote:
Could be the focal length - used 2x on the iPhone X. Edit, I see what you’re talking about now. Yeah maybe. White bleeds “bigger” in photos and my photo is underexposed compared to most of the previous images. Over expose the white and it can look fatter. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

The more I scrutinize...
Looks like the newer inner bezel has other differences. The space is greater between the number and the zero in 20, 30, 40, 50. Same shot uncropped. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
