how to get SS DAYTONA
After much debate I have decided to hold out for the SS Daytona. Only problem is where to get it. AD's in my area say almost impossible to get. Am I stuck paying a premium or does anyone know where I can get one. White dial.
Thanks |

If you don't mind waiting, get on a waiting list. Means you don't have to pay over the odds, plus you get the full benefit of the 2 year guarantee.

It is getting easier to pick one up from an AD at MSRP these days due to the state of the economy and the almost $10,000 price tag. Just be patient. Or take a look at the for sale section here and on other forums. BNIB can be had for close to MSRP and pre-owned for less.

Key word is almost. Where you live I would imagine they are around at AD"s. Just keep going in and pestering them, go in every other week or so. Let them know that you are serious and ready to write the check. Don't be suprised if you end up with one sooner that you think.

Last dealer I was at told me it would be 18 years. Meaning there are 18 people on his waiting list and he only gets one a year. That kind of response just tells me how difficult it will be to get one. But I hate to buy one online and pay a mark up. Don't want to wait too long!!

If you want one , get one. Even at a slight premium. PLenty here for sale.
Rolex will raise prices again someday soon. That is just the way they are. By the time you wait, the price could increase. Get one. It will pencil out in the longrun and you can have the satisfaction and enjoyment of wearing it soon! |

I called my AD yesterday and asked him to give me a call when one comes in. He agreed they are getting "a little" easier to come across but told me it would be a long time before one ends up in the showcase. Probably a geographic thing though. I would plant seeds with a few AD's and something should pop up. With the info that's been posted up on this site lately, it does seem that it's becoming much easier to land one at MSRP. Good luck, make sure to share pics if you land one

I'd call a few places as well to get on their waiting lists. I was in Las Vegas 2 years ago and asked Wynn Rolex and Mandalay Rolex to call me when a SS GMT IIc came in as I could buy them without tax (shipped to my house). They both agreed and within about 8-12 months, each of them called with an offer of a brand new GMT IIc (which isn't hard to find now, but was impossible to find then).

As I mentioned in an earlier post should you be able to source a BNIB SS with a reputable "grey mkt" dealer at a price of say RRP + £1000 and you dont mind paying that BUY IT. I say buy it because if you go on a AD list and secure one in 12 mths time (very unlikely) or more probably in 5 yrs time, I can guarentee you the RRP will have increased by over £1000 anyway!!!
Personally I don't pay over the RRP for a my pieces but even I admit I've been very lucky with the relationships I have with several AD's here in the UK and overseas. The telephone is a great way to build relationships with oversea AD's particularly now that most telephone operators offer free overseas calls. It also shows great commitment for ownership. BTW purchasing overseas reduces the overall price (-local tax) therfore the flight is free!!!! |

I was offered one last Saturday by an AD. I've had my name down since April 2005. I turned it down cos it was a Black Dial but they did offer to send it off to change it to white... I can always call to see if its still available? RRP here in UK is £5730

Hard call. Way back in 2005 when they were £3700/4200 you could have bought a white/black face from a grey mkt dealer for £5200. The advantages would have been instant ownership and cheaper than the £5730 RRP today. However there is still nothing like buying from an AD at RRP is there? |
