Rating the condition of a watch
Just curious if there is a general guideline on rating the condition of a watch. I know it's pretty subjective, but thought I'd ask. I have my watches listed for sale and don't want to mislead anyone, which is why I'm asking. Pictures can often be misleading as well.
What would you folks consider mint condition? Looking forward to your responses.

- clean, unblemished dial. - case and bracelet with hardly any scratches, in fact no scratches would be better. - bracelet without any stretch. - movement in perfect working order - recently serviced if the watch is very old. - a great price!! JJ

It's funny, you will see watches from 1960's that have been worn for most of their lives listed in "mint" condition! To me mint is defined as 100% all original, no dings, scratches on the case or bracelet....almost like the watch has never been worn!

I think that you need to go to the origin of the word "mint" as it applies to collectibles..
I believe it started in the coin community, and "mint" meant exactly that....the way it came when freshly minted.... Anything less just isn't mint...it is something less; however, there is no absolute agreement here.. There is a guide about grading watches around someplace... Here is what Antiquorium has to say: Watch Grading And another more simple one: Simple Watch Grading ......................
