2018 GMT CHNR...Crazy Grey Price

So the first wave of 2018 GMT CHNR's are starting to filter through to AD's which is good.

However, what's not good is it appears that Rolex are still allowing their AD's to let the watches fall into the wrong hands - instant flippers rather than trusted customers who actually want to own and wear the watch for themselves.

Quick check on Chronograph 24 and there are already 11 for sale at crazy premiums.

UK list price is £10,350.

One private seller in the US is asking $29,999 - which according to Chrono24 converts to £22,588GBP well over DOUBLE the UK list price!

This is madness...what will they be asking for the SS Pepsi when they start appearing? Triple????

You won't be complaining a year or two from now when the greys are selling the TT GMT at a discount per usual.

A year or two? Give it a month or two, it’s two tone

Is this not business as usual for new, hot releases?

Just checked chrono24, 5000 premium is the lowest I found, not that bad. Waiting for Pepsi to hit the grey market, that would be crazy

How should dealers stop this?

Are you really surprised at this pricing? What did you expect?

Dealers should only sell the 'hot' models to customers they know and trust not to instantly re sell.

These flippers are just spoiling it for the likes of you & me who just want to be able to own one for ourselves and not use them as a commodity for profiteering.

Unfortunately, yes I expected the new models to comand a premium on the secondary market, but more than double the UK list??

Come on, even SS Daytona's don't command that level of inflation!

They are not commanding that at all, its just some chancer putting it up for crazy money which he will never get as there are plenty of much cheaper options.

I can kind of see your point but to say dealers should only sell to buyers they know is a bit elitist (although I realise that is the way its going). Not everyone wants to buy a load of watches just so an AD trusts them.

Agree 100% but no AD will, for example, sell you a SS ceramic Daytona unless you have a history with them & are considered a 'premium' customer.

It is the AD's that are setting the 'elitist' ground rules not me.

For what it’s worth I agree with you. When I see a listing in the For Sale section here and it says ‘brand new in box I’m selling My fully stickered BLNR receipt dated April 2018’ it honestly just makes me angry. Why not write instead ‘brand new BLNR that I bought for no other reason than to make some quick money here’
I know I know you’ll all tell me that’s the market blah blah blah if someone wants it badly enough they’ll pay blah blah that’s capitalism blah but that doesn’t mean I have to like it.

They list it high but Jomashop has it for 18.5k, most grey have the CHNR from 18k to 20k, given that tax is 1k in the US (or 15k total price), this is only a 3.5k markup.

I still will not buy at that price but it is not that large a markup.

That means that "once in a lifetime" buyers who walk in a store will never get a popular watch because we aren't known to the AD. Will I have to come once a week for a cup of coffee for a year?

A lot of Members told me that since it’s a TT Watch That There would be no price gouging....We now see the truth.I’d imagine the First new Pepsi GMT’s will be listed around 20K.Just like normal,The big Grey sellers will somehow have it First...How does this ALWAYS happen? Greed and Buyers with more Money than sense. If People stop paying stupid prices the whole Game will go back to normal but that will never happen with Instagram hype and the “gotta have it” Crowd.

Well said.Maybe I do not think that people pay those prices. You have to be very stupid to let yourself be robbed like that.

Maybe Eric was right. If the market price for the two-tone CHNR is $29,999, the full-gold CHNR should be $45,000 or even more.

In Singapore, a saw one full RG GMT today for 55K SGD = 41K USD.

My thoughts exactly. Don’t rely on an AD to protect you from the grey’s and their ASKING prices. Just, simply, exercise some self discipline and don’t buy from that dealer.

Just testing the market. Early adopters will have to pay up.

Grays list at this price to test the waters. If no-one bites watch the prices drop.

Prices will go down soon enough, after a while you'll even get a discount again as is common for TT references.

Asking and getting are two different things. I agree that the prices are crazy and it is indicative of a market that is out of balance with supply and demand. I also think that once I purchase an item that it belongs to me and not the seller and I can do what I please with the item. A lot of issues arise when the AD's take a different stance and it impacts the market in a negative way. Rolex should stop playing games and start releasing the watches to meet demand.

Simply protest by not purchasing. Is anyone surprised, I mean the way its going this will be the case after every Basel release going forward. If you want a hot watch you are going to have to pay for it unless you have the connection. Looks like this is the way going forward.
