Buy the white dial Daytona,... it is a V serial which is the latest..

Then, buy the Black dedicated to the 116509 dial with Arabic Numerals with Red Hands.
wow - two in one !!

Although I own watches with white, black, red, blue, and cream-colored dials, it the black dial that I like the most.

The black dial seems to be the most versatile and always seems to say, "I'm ready for business."

I chose the white faced Daytona.

In the sport models you mostly get black in the SS versions except for the Explorer white face.

My GMT ll C is black and is the best watch I have by far but for the SS Daytona I wanted white.

Its probably a 50/50 deal if we took a survey.

Be happy you have the choice. Last year this wouldnt be happening as much as it is lately.

My decision, after TRF's suggestions

I am leaning to the white. I actually like the black a little better. I like black dial in general - I even like the black face ExpII more than the white one - most TRF members prefer the white face. I want to get the white one now for one reason - because I have so many black face sports watches already. I think I will get a black face Daytona eventually, either in addition to the white or trade the white if I don't like it. Is this a good decision?

Great choice.

Side-by-side comparison... first 2 pictures belong to Felly Jr. Last two are my blk and white dial.

I like both but can only choose one. I need your help to decide.

I agree, but I have the white dial on my 116520 and the black dial on my 16520.

For new 116520 though I would get white.

I've owned both and found white to be more legible. I had difficulty seeing the time on the black dial in poor light.

Slight edge to black for the more sporty look.

I'm currently agonising (in a good way) over a black or white dial Exp II, so I feel your "pain".

However, for me it would be an easy decision with a Daytona: go BLACK

Cheers

BLACK SS DAYTONA. No question.

First, the correct answer when you get "the call" from you AD about an SS Daytona is simply YES. Buy white or black -- whatever you are offered. Congratulations that you have a choice!! Amazing luck!

But you are trying to decide on one and I would have to recommend black.

Worldwide, black is harder to get and commands a higher premium over list in most countries (e.g. Japan). This may not be an issue if you are not going to flip it but rarity is always nice to have.

The perceived increased popularity of white in some countries is likely due to the greater availability of the white dial compared to black even though both are still very hard to get at an AD for list price.

Finally, there is historic support for going with the black dial. COSMOGRAPH production began in 1963 with the reference 6239, initially with a VALJOUX 72B movement, and identical to that of the 6238 models. The oldest examples have a bezel for speed measurement with graduations and silver counters on a BLACK DIAL for the steel version.

Having said all that, they are both stunning and a true "grail" Rolex. The black is more versatile, works in more situations, and has a larger presence on the wrist.

P.S. Try to get the older clasp if you can find one -- you can save some money and the older (78490) clasp is slightly better than the 78590.

I thought you have a white already. I think you should choose the black. By the way, I really enjoyed your post the other day. I don't know should I say congratulation or sorry to you about you and your wife. I made a mistake to show your post to my wife. I am not sure I can get that Daytona now. Welcome to TRF.

Thank you for your info. If the black comes with the old clasp and old price, then I would pick the black right away. But the black one comes with the new clasp and the new MSRP, and it is an M.

Based on your collection ... you only have one other white dial watch, so I'd go for the white Daytona. I personally like it better as well, but I think it rounds out your collection better as well and gives you another white dial option besides the MG.
