possible to order new Sub Date without cyclops?

hi all? subject says it all, really.

if I were thinking of ordering a new Sub Date, might it be possible to specify a plain crystal without the cyclops lens?

I know I could get the No Date instead, but I quite like the date; just prefer the plain look of a crystal without the lens...

thanks much.

I think this has been discussed before.
I don't think it is possible to order a plain crystal to sub date, but I have seen examples where the cyclops has been either been removed (it is actally glued on ) or crystal swap from a non-date Sub on this forum.

Erix, is correct. Just buy the standard watch and have the cyclops removed.

I think I would just get a ND crystal, swap it out, and have the original in case I changed my mind or wanted to sell it. I have never seen a SD in the wild but I imagine there's quite a difference in height and weight on your wrist.

thanks all; can the cyclops be removed without making an arse of the crystal, one presumes? would an AD do that, even? Is there a danger that Rolex would replace it back to official spec at a service, and charge me for it?

> Sub without cyclops name Sub ND.

surely that's a Sub without the lens and without the date. I want the date but not the lens.

and I thought the SD was bigger, more expensive. and isn't it discontinued now, in favour of the much bigger DS?

thanks again for all the comments. I could of course just ask the AD, but I never trust 'em :)

The Cyclops is easily removed as evidenced by by EXPII sans "bubble":

An AD offered to do it for free if I bought the watch he had for MSRP.

I bought elsewhere for 20% off and it cost me $180 to make the conversion. The best money I ever spent.

As for service, I have a Rolex certified master watchmaker who does all my work. He has no problem with the customization.

Discontinued but the last few are rumored to be hitting AD's at end of year in UK. Ask your AD.

one big point though: isn't the SD much more expensive than the Sub?

[edit: I see that's answered "no", in the referenced thread; I was confused, since I saw "replacement cost" I tihnk at Blowers that showed it much more]

The Blowers price is probably a reference to the replacement cost. As it is discontinued they would be referencing against the new Deep sea dweller.
The SD was always about £200 more than the sub.

well, that does make sense, thanks, but they also have a DSSD, which they also quote a replacement cost for:

Sub Date: replacement cost £3,470
Sub no Date: replacement cost £3,140
Sub Date LV: replacement cost £3,690
SD: replacement cost £5,340
DSSD: replacement cost £5,340

and of course it's now obvious: they've mismarked their SD with the DSSD price.

ok, I've got it now, thanks.

now, what's the chances of me finding an AD with both a Sub and an SD for me to try on? :)

Buy the SD.....essentially, what you want and not messed with in an aftermarket way.
