Rolex in London

Hi Bros, as above. I'm going to London this December. Is the price for a Rolex reasonable for me to get 1 over there? I'm looking at either a SS Daytona or a Coke GMTII (If can find a new piece). Any AD or if looking for a good used rolex, an Authorised Rolex reseller to recommend? Thanks in advance ya.

The only place's that you will find a S/S Daytona will be at a Grey Dealers, such as those in New Bond St and Burlington Arcade, But you will pay a hefty premium to get one.
I can't give you any info on the GMT.
Though saying that, with the exchange on the GBP you should do ok.

Thanks Tony ... any info will be helpful. I'm keeping my options open. Where's the best place to do window shopping? Wanna survey before I commit anything ... BTW, what's the chances of finding a Tudor 79170 or alike lurking in shops over there? Dying for one since I spot Dan's beauty in one of his post. :)

Agreed. A hefty premium indeed.

Thanks, Dennis. I did see, thanks to Tony B, a 79260 [silver dial w/ black subs, black tackymeter bezel] at a dealer on Bond St. Sorry, don't remember the name.
Have fun,
dP

London/the UK isn't cheap/reasonable for anything least of all Rolex, but the way the pound is tumbling you never know.
Bond Street and the Burrlington Arcade have a few shop full of eye candy.
This place is worth a look http://www.watchcentre.com/
and this http://www.daviddugganwatches.co.uk/
and this http://www.vintagewatchcompany.com/the-company , but this one is very very expensive!
Have a great trip and I really hope you enjoy our capital city

Watches of Switzerland on Bond Street (the one half way down, not the one at the bottom where Bond Street joins Picadilly) also sell used watches, including Rolex. Always worth checking out.

I adore London! Not so much as a shopper's haven, but it is a unique city! Have fun!

I envy you!

Dennis if you have time try to get the The Royal Observatory in Greenwich, if the observatory & whole meridian line thing wasn't enough, Harrison's timepieces are on permanent display, they're absolutely breathtaking

I agree totally! Greenwich is a beautiful place and the National Maritime Museum is superb also. We went on a Saturday and there were some nice antique markets as well as the Greenwich Market that was also worthwhile. http://www.greenwichmarket.net. And the Cutty Sark is dry docked there! Just good all the way around!!

Take one of the tour boats back up the Thames to London proper. A lovely trip and gives you a different perspective of the London area.

Dennis,

Buy a Daytona in the States and fly across for the pick up - the savings will probably more than pay for the trip IMO.

I wonder how long the grey Daytona prices will remain this high around Bond St. I was offered a 1mth old white dial SS for £6K yesterday, a £300 premium!

You'd have to check the exchange rate etc, but I think it wouldn't be cheap to buy in London.

There is a Zenith Daytona on the CM which is from a UK seller which seems a reasonable price. Maybe negotiate a deal to meet in London...?

Pretty sure they dont allow photos in Harrods except in certain areas so will have to do it undercover which might not be possible with all the security there but the Room of Luxury certainly is great for all the eye candy
