Elusive Datejust 41 blue dial...

First post!
I have dreamt about a Datejust with blue dial since I saw one briefly 23 years ago. Saw another one up close around 10 years ago and loved cyclops over the date, looked so classic. Have now got to the point where I can afford to buy one. But...
It is so elusive! Never seen it in any store but I have decided I prefer fluted bezel (and oyster bracelet), although both watches I have seen before had smooth bezel. When I tried an elaborate move to buy one in duty free in February, the store were very poor at returning my messages and when I turned up they said "we never have them in stock, I don't know who said you could buy today"!!
Have since been in contact with my nearest dealer and they said they would put an order in for me to pay 50% deposit but they are also really poor at getting back to me and I have been chasing them for a week!
Can't believe a watch store isn't biting my hand off to spend £6900 on one of their pieces. Even called around a few of the bigger stores in London and none of them could promise me getting one, even paying up front!
What is the deal with exclusivity of the blue dial and how can I get hold of one??

Indeed, the blue DJ is getting quite popular. That's usually the missing color at the various ADs, but stock should be incoming. Just get yourself onto the list.

Tell me about the list please. One dealer said you have to have a purchase history with Rolex and/or dealer for exclusive pieces. The manager said he would get me on the list and would be 6 week turnaround. But said he would call back last week and still waiting.
Is list first-come-first serve or more biased??

That configuration you are looking for is on the face of almost every DJ41 advertisement (this explains its popularity). I received my smooth oyster DJ41 in blue after 3 weeks of wait, but your city (London?) might be difficult to get anything IMO.

If buying from an AD is 100% reputable, buying from David is 99.9%. Look at his reviews in the forum. He also has a physical shop in Orlando. Email him and see what his shipping policies are.

It's whatever that dealer decides it is.

But, yeah -- while the blue DJ is probably the most popular model, it's still not especially hard to find. DavidSW is a good resource, as are other trusted resellers. Or if you just wait at the AD, you probably won't be waiting long. Given the general availability, though, you should be including price comparisons (don't forget to consider taxes) as well.

Saw my first DJ 41 with jubilee bracelet and blue face this weekend. It was stunning. Our jeweler has had it only a week and let us try it on. Blew. Me. Away.

Got it!

Was at a conference in Manchester and during some downtime called the local dealer and guess what...? They had it! Seeing it in the flesh for the first time, I just had to get it!!
Had to switch bracelet, jubilee and fluted too much for me. Very pleased, first and hopefully not last Rolex. Got a smallish wrist but looks more in proportion in real life than in the pic I think. What do you guys think?? Just so you're not confused, I wear on right wrist but not a leftie, copied my dad with first watch and can't wear watches on left.
BTW I saw 2 Seadwellers on my way up north and to be honest they look much better on the wrist than in a store window. Probably get one of those in a few years....

Very nice, the DJ41 is becoming one of my favourite Rolexes, they are just so versatile. Oyster and fluted definitely the right combo...just enough bling but without being ridiculous.

Thanks for the messages! Re combo, jubilee bracelet just looked too dressy for me to wear every day and in every situation. Smooth bezel looked a little bit too plain for such a big purchase for me. Probably contradicting myself but each to their own I suppose

I’m in a strange dilemma. I bought the Datejust 41 blue dial fluted bezel with oyster bracelet but I am thinking of returning it and picking up the silver dial, rhodium or Wimbledon dial.

I already have a Gmt LN and the blue dial looks only really nice if there is good lighting.

What do fellow forum members think ?

You know my vote! I've wanted it for many many years so I'm biased but the blue dial is hard to get so has an exclusivity about it.
Both look very nice to be fair
