No AD Necessary

I don't need to play games with ADs. Buying watches I don't want in order to get on lists is ridiculous. Pre-owned 5 digit references offers me a broad range of watches which are Rolex classics. More bang for the buck and the hunt for good deals is part of the enjoyment. I'm not waiting years for a watch.

Great, insist on good condition, full set, a recent service by Rolex and papers to prove it and you will be a happy camper.

Remember that a good deal = a good watch. Not a cheap watch.

All this talk about lists but I've walked into 5 ADs this past weekend here in New York City and they said they dont do lists anymore. Was it perhaps the snakeskin suit that I was wearing that threw me off?

Very true about the 5 digit refs, and I agree that the "hunt" could be part of the enjoyment too. Perfect plan for someone who is interested in a 5 digit watch. However, after considering a nice pre-owned myself, I really felt that one of the newer models was for me. Since I don't really want to pay the mark up that the grey market dealers put on the model I want.......I unfortunately have no choice but to go to an AD. I expect to have to get on a list and wait as well!

When I read your title and clicked into this thread, I was hoping that you had a tip that I could use to avoid an AD!

Where I live they don't do lists either. It seems like these lists are becoming a thing of the past.

I can understand, I think those references are the best bang for the buck. I will not play all these crazy games with AD, just to buy a trendy watch. No one even talked about a lv a year ago, it’s hilarious!

Not sure at today’s price of vintage Rolex, it is going to be a bang for the buck. I still go for the AD route and a modern Rolex timepiece. Just my opinion.

That's one of the nice things about having a preference for the 4 and 5 digit models. You're not affected by the current lack of availability, exclusivity, allocation, 100% Grey markup, etc.. Of course finding a nice example of a 4/5 digit watch priced right in today's market presents it's challenges too.

My preference is for the older models but I do own a SubC. I like some of the other new models but can't get with the current program. If things ever settle down and I'm able to walk into an AD and choose from a genuine selection of current models I may add another 6 digit to my collection.

For the ADs that don’t do lists, how does one go about ordering/requesting a ref. that’s not in stock?…first come, first served?

Maybe if you post it enough you’ll start to believe it. I’m anxiously awaiting my ceramic Pepsi while enjoying my 16710.

Yes. Ask them when they normally receive shipments from Rolex. Contact them at such a time and ask them if they have received the watch you want. You will sooner or later get the watch you are after.
