A few words about the GMT II (Long)
When I first joined a Rolex forum all I saw was Pepsi GMTs everywhere! I had just bought a TT Sub so I was not interested in this watch. It just did not wink at me. Then a surprise Yachtmaster came along and I really feel in love with it and still fell like it is THE Rolex sports model for me. Anyway, I got a good deal from my AD on a new "F" series GMT II. (This was after three calls from my AD, I kept putting them off) Well, I bought it over the phone and with this purchase, I just was not excited. No pacing or waiting for the Postal truck to arrive. When I first opened the box it looked nice. It felt light which I wrongly connected with being cheap or inexpensive. I started wearing it and messing a little with the features. After a few weeks this is becoming my daily watch, my 'beater'. The bracelet just does not show the scratches like my other watches. The 'look' is almost identical to the Sub, so it's great in that category. I have the option of two other bezels, which make it the most versatile watch I have. The 24 hour hand is very handy. I really like the hour hand 'jump'. The bi-directional rotating bezel is a great feature. The fact that it can be used as a compass is great for me. I live in the desert and you can get lost very fast if you are not careful. Although most people do not wander into the desert like I might, since I have been doing this for decades. Actually being lighter has some advantages, it is comfortable to wear. I cannot say it is more comfortable than my YM but lighter. As far as history, this watch is fully loaded. This is a watch that should be checked out before writing it off. With the world 'shrinking' the way it is, keeping track of two or three time zones is very handy.

Out of the GMT bezels myself prefer the black insert, but if you have all 3
You can change to suit. Then you have a very versatile watch, only wish they had the same size crown as the Sub.

Another convert!! Well done, Dennis. You are talking about my favorite watch (let alone favorite Rolex) and in the best color bezel of all.
The black Y series GMT-II became my daily beater from the moment I took it out of the box nearly 2 years ago. It is the perfect watch for traveling;and since I do a fair amount of that across time zones, it has become my only travel watch. Wear it well and I hope you continue to enjoy yours as much as I love mine.

Congrats, Dennis, that's an absolute cracker. I also notice you've got the new style box now...same one I got with my TT YM.
Wear it in good health.

GMT II crown
Padi, I had the same feeling about the crown. It felt and looked small at first but now seems nice because it does not protrude as much as a triplock. In other words I think it fits the watch. I used to wear a Seiko and the crown always dug into my wrist, ALL the time. A Rolex sits higher on my wrist and does not cause this continual irritation. =) maverick

But you're right. The LV dial doesn't even look good on the Sub. How could it look any better on the GMT.

Have you seen the Rolex, Rolex around the inner side in person? It looks way less obvious in person, I do not mind it at all. As for the green dial, I will wait until I see it in person. So far, I don't care for it, black is much better. It is kind of nice to have the serial number at the 6 o'clock position.=) maverick

I've seen the repeatitive Rolex printing on the inner chapter ring and it is very subtle...you can hardly notice it unless you go looking for it. It has been done in good taste and looks pretty artistic on a very close examination.
I had the opportunity to examine a new TOG up close and personal at Mansor's one day under a loupe whilst a bit of cleavage was overhanging my way. I can assure you that the cleavage was more exciting than the chapter ring!!

So Dennis, the magic question is will you change out the bezels yourself?
It takes some patience, but is not that bad at all. http://www.vikbobil.se/bezel.html (credit to the master!! Jocke)
