Does a SEIKO Solar Quartz "tick" or sweep?

Anyone know?

I know these watches can stay charged for 10 mos...I assume you never change a battery.

Question is, does the seconds hand tick in one-second increments ala a traditional quartz, or some other variant.

Solar is only the means of (re-)charging the battery, it’s still a quartz movement, so no different to standard battery or kinetic versions.

Yep. It's the same with my Citizen Eco Drive as well.

Thanks much.

I read a forum posting elsewhere which said a Seiko quartz beat at 5 bears a second, but that. Doesn’t make sense...

Cool concept though. The solar powered bit that is.

One second per tick. However, with my understanding of how quartz watches work, I’m sure it could be electronically engineered to work that way. I would guess it would sacrifice some accuracy.

Although on the solar chronos, while the running seconds ticks once per second, the chrono hand has the look of an auto.

It takes a lot more energy for a sweeping motion, so its not generally good for quartz.

agree. but that's why bulova accutron II is so nice. it has a sweeping second hand, no date, and has a respectable battery life of 2 years.
