Help me, help my buddy decide
So a good friend of mine wants to make a purchase. He is looking at 3 different time pieces. He was looking at getting the new Tudor GMT. He also likes the Tudor Chronograph as well. I think there is just a few hundred dollar difference between the two. Which one would you get and why? Correct me if I’m wrong, but the chronograph runs a Zenith movement right? If so, is that similar to the movement that ran in the old Daytona’s?
So let me as one more thing to this, be also likes the black dial Explorer II. I think he is a little hung up on the price jump between the Tudor’s and the Rolex. Would you spend the extra to get that instead. Your opinions are greatly appreciated. Thanks all.... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

If you mean the Black Bay Chronograph, the movement is made by Brietling, and no, it is nothing like the Zenith - but it is very close to the newer Daytona 4130 movement.

Go with the GMT. the function is much more useful than the chronograph.
Plus, the chronograph has it's flaws. Seconds hand is too wide for chronograph reqding. Only an issue for the purists, but still. GMT is a great piece. Go with it. |

If he's hung up on the price difference, then that's the first hurdle. You can't be...you gotta go with what you want. And whatever it costs, it costs.
Cheaper in the long run, trust me. |

I was looking at the Tudor Chronograph before buying my Tudor black bay heritage red. The chronograph is very appealing, especially given the mat dial and the date functionality.
Tudor GMT is a thick watch, he should really try it on if this is his first 'nice watch'. The colors don't fit well into a dressy scenario either, while chrono fits nicely. I would highly suggest him looking at a 5 digit Explorer II, price/size/functionality and beautiful looks (more elegant than 6 digit in my opinion.) Quote:

*The hour hand* ... Right ... I agree, the chronograph is the more versatile watch. Is it as thick as the GMT though ? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

The BB chrono would be my pick as I do actually use the chrono function almost daily in my job and often several times each day, so it is a highly useful complication for me. Secondly, the B01 movement from Breitling in there is a well respected movement, and when I tried it on-man its a lotta watch for that money. The BB chrono just feels like a quality time piece on the wrist. Some find the snow flake hands and combination diver/chrono thing bothersome.

I enjoy chronographs, and the Tudor BB Chronograph is a dynamite package for the price. Of the watches your friend is looking at, I think this would be my choice.
As others have noted, the movement in it is a result of collaboration with Breitling, and it's a good one. In this price range, I recommend also having a look at the classic Omega Speedmaster Professional. |

All of the selections are good and if he can swing it pick up the Explorer II. If not, make sure he buys right as the trade or depreciation will be significant if he pays msrp.

Tell your buddy to go to the AD a couple of times and try the watches.... eventually, one will make him smile more.

Your buddy should try them both on and figure out which one calls out to him more. Personally he can’t go wrong with either choice, just depends on overall functionality.
