What to do...

Well guys, never thought this day would happen, but it just seems like I'm getting bored with watches.

I keep saving up for another Rolex, but really there is nothing out there that I want. I have a SS Sub date, a TT blue sub, OQ DJ, TT DJ and a SS DJ. Whenever I think about another watch, do not know how much wrist time it would get as I love my current line up. Daytona and 2nd timezone watches just don't interest me.

I also have a true beater watch, (titanium invicta). A Rado, a really thin Longiness, and a very cool seiko. 8f movement perpetual calendar, blah, blah, blah.

Getting to the point where I just don't see anything out in the market that gets me excited. I go through the Omega line, they have some nice watches, but not sure I would wear them with what I already have.

Have any of you guys gone through the same thing with watches? Feels like I'm just in a slump/rut.

I'm sure everyone goes through a slump like that. I don't have the range of watches you have. My main ones are a TT sub, a Carier Santos and a Panerai. To be honest I wear the Rolex most of the time and occasionally put on the Pammy. I like to go window shopping but have not seen anything else I would rather wear.

Mark,

Thought about a TT YM? Since you already have the blue dial Sub, why not try a TT YM with either a white or silver/grey dial?

Cheers - JJ

Mark, it is pretty normal I think to go through this progression. I would say to just enjoy what you have and when the mood strikes you will enjoy it more.

Guys, thanks for the input.

Vintage? Hmmmm, something to think about.

TT YM? The blue sub is about as much bling as I can handle, something about the solid gold bezel that really sets off the TT YM watch. Maybe even more so that a SG version. IMHO. Nice watch, but when push came to shove, I'd be wearing my TT sub.

This is gonna sound strange, but the only watch I have considered is a Movado. My friend has one. They are cheap, dependable, and he gets lots of compliments. Won't even need to insure it.

If someone says "nice watch" I can reply, "Thank you it is a MOVADO" Maybe I can even get someone to ask me if it is real. LOL

Yup, in such a slump these days have been considering Movado as a possible next.

Mark, the slump feeling is quite normal. I've been there for a while. There is not much more that I would really want enough to go out and spend the bucks on right now. I've got a YG DD, 2 TT DJs and my trusty everyday GMT-II, plus a GP ww.tc, a JLC Master Geographic, an Omega X-33, and an (relatively) inexensive Oris Worldtimer. The only watch I am moderately interested in at the moment is a Breitling Olympus because of all its complications, but only if I can pick one up at a really good price (at least 50% off retail).

I did try on a meteorite Daytona with black leather strap the other day. I must say it is one striking piece of jewelry on the wrist. Even my wife was impressed with it. She asked: "Why don't you get one," when I mentioned I could probably pick one up for about 30% off retail. But I'm not ready to spend that much on a watch I probably would not wear very much at all. I so love the GMT that most of my other watches get almost zero wrist time. To plunk down 5 figures on something I would hardly wear after the novelty wore off just doesn't seem to make much sense.

So you see, we all get that way from time to time. When the mood strikes, you'll find the right one for you. No need to push it.

Well said, Ed. Good advice.

As for consistency....I give you full marks for that undying love of yours over your GMT-II!!

Mark, I've lost interest in watches for now. I know it will come back -- in months, or years.

Fortunately, there are fountain pens.

And in return I give you full credit for the undying love you show for whatever watch you happen to have at the moment.

Even I, a relative newbie in the watch world, have noted there are times when I'm not interested in reading watch magazines or surfing the watch sites for a while (the first few watch magazines were the only in my life that I read cover to cover, advertizing and all!). It only lasts a day or two, but I am prepared for the time when I will go longer with reduced interest.

At first, my focus was on Rolex only, but that burned out pretty quickly. Since I have broad tastes in watches, I have an interest in many brands and styles. I know some limit themselves to sport watches only, but I also like the dress watches.

So, hang in there, and it will come back.
